Here is a note from Mary Goodner regarding the community garden.
---------------
Hello Fellow Community Gardeners,

You are receiving this note because you had, at one time, gardened or had expressed an interest in gardening at the Algoma Community Gardens.

In the past year we have been working to make the gardening experience more user friendly by constructing 4' X 8' raised beds filled with 6" of straw
and 8" of soil, making them ready for seeds.

We currently have about 10 beds remaining for rent, for this summer season, at the rate of $10 per bed or 3 beds for $25.

If you are interested in gardening with us, please contact Dale or Sharon Wahlers at: 920-487- 5876

Hope to see you at the garden-
Mary Goodner
Algoma Community Gardens Committee

Any Carpet installers out there who would be willing to donate a bit of time to install a piece of carpet at the Kewaunee County Food Pantry?
We were donated a nice brand new piece of indoor/outdoor carpet that would fit in our waiting room area. What is there now is pretty worn and dirty. The room size is apx 13' x 12'.
Thanks

BELOW IS SOME INFO ON THE ALGOMA COMMUNITY GARDEN from Mary Goodner
-------------------------
Calling all you wonderful gardeners!!

Spring is right around the corner and as the growing season for 2017 approaches there are a few things we wanted to tell you about the Algoma Community Gardens.

First and foremost - due to the overly wet weather and poor drainage we've encountered out in the garden the last two years, several volunteers have started building raised beds (three 4'X 8' beds to a plot) to help remedy those problems. We've got a number of the beds built, filled with a layer of cardboard, straw and composted dirt and are ready to plant. A few beds are waiting patiently to have dirt added, while others are anxiously waiting to be built. We sincerely hope that this makes it easier for your garden to be successful.

We planning a spring workday to rehab the garden for this years planting season and to finish putting together the rest of the raised beds. We'll send out another email/phone call with the planned date for that work day soon.

The garden shed has been completely repaired and re-sided and it looks phenomenal - thanks so much to the Wahlers boys Mathew and Jacob for completing their Eagle Scout projects here at the garden. It was a wonderful gesture on their part (and thank you to the Forestville Builders as well!).

We hope you will join us this gardening season in our new, improving Community Garden. We'll have free composted dirt once again and straw bales for sale. We will opt to forego the garden orientation this year for our returning gardeners. Since you are veterans here, you know the drill. For any new gardeners, we will have one on one or small group orientations.

The cost to rent a plot is $25.00/full plot (with 3 raised beds or if you prefer, no raised beds) or you can rent a raised bed(s) for $10.00/each. Please contact coordinator Sharon Wahlers 920-487-5876 with your preference. We will do whatever we can to match you up with the right plot. Returning gardeners can get their old plot back, switch to a new one or add plots.

The food pantry is always looking for volunteers to grow fresh organic produce for those who cannot do it themselves. If you'd like to do that, the raised bed or plot will be free. We also have no-fee scholarships for those who cannot pay for a plot. For all plot rentals call Sharon 920-487-5876.

Anyone who would like to get involved in the garden planning or anyone who has suggestions for improvements, please call one of the coordinators and let us know. We'd love to have your input! If you know of anyone who might be interested in renting a plot or even just one of the raised beds, feel free to let us know and forward this message on to them.

We're looking forward to getting back out in the dirt and hoping to seeing you there as well. Here's wishing you a successful and happy growing season!

Sincerely,
The Algoma Community Garden Coordinators Sharon Wahlers, , 920-487-5876 Mary Goodner, , 920-487-8094
Sandy Winnemueller,
