*T-Ball Families**
Whacky Weather Wednesdays is getting kind of ridiculous! Sadly, things do not look good for us to have tball tonight. We are going to cancel. We know that the kids are excited to play and we couldn’t be any more disappointed.
With the field usage opening up because of the Little League seasons coming to an end, we are going to look into seeing if we can possibly get two practices in a week to make up for all these bad weather days. Stay tuned!

**T-Ball Families**
After assessing the situation at the ball field and considering the cold temps and wind, we’ve decided to postpone tonight’s practice and add it to the end of the session. We polled a handful of parents and the consensus was that no one would really enjoy playing out in this weather. Everyone cross your fingers that next Wednesday will be beautiful so we can get these kids playing ball! ⚾️

With the storm water redesign project in 2020, we had to remove the small pavilion in front of the Youth Club. It was in poor condition and could not be salvaged. We had observed that this space was one of the most used park pavilions in the city. Many visitors and community members used this space to enjoy a picnic by the water or just relax under ther shade. We would like to offer an area near the north end of the parking lot in front of the Youth Club for people to enjoy again.
We have private donors pledging over $7,000, and a couple of grants and funds totaling $3,000. We need about $5,000 more to make to make it to our goal. Donations or memorials over $700.00 would be recognized on plaque placed by the shade structure.
If you would like to contribute to this project please call Sara Robertson at 920-487-5480.
(Photo is an example of the shade structure we would be installing along with two metal picnic tables.)

Things are looking a little green! Not only is the grass in our parks greening up from the rain but maybe you have also noticed the duckweed in the Ahnapee River and along the lakeshore. Even though it looks alarming, the duckweed plant is a normal part of the ecosystem.
There are actually quite a few benefits of duckweed. It provides a high-protein food source for waterfowl, as well as cover for many aquatic species. Duckweed is even being studied by researchers around the world as a possible source of clean energy. And not that we’re suggesting it, but duckweed can be eaten by humans, as they do eat it in some parts of Southeast Asia.
The duckweed won’t be here long term. Like last year, it was only around for a few weeks.

We would like to thank the Algoma Area Chamber for all their hard work with getting Heritage Pavilion looking great for Concerts in the Park!
Director Ken Weinaug, Committee President Jennifer Highland and member Renee Ebert worked very hard in pressure washing the pavilion and giving it a much needed fresh coat of paint. Member Chet Kiedrowski donated the paint and Vice President Jennifer Emert provided the ladders. As a concert sponsor, Dennis Mertens installed the concrete slabs on the sides of the pavilion to help improve the sound system for the musicians.
We very much appreciate all their effort in this project! This seasons concert series begins on Thursday, July 1st.

Because of this, we are going to push back our start date for T-Ball for 5 and 6 year olds to the following Wednesday (June 23rd). Feel free to still come to the park to cheer on the Lady Wolves to victory this Wednesday! 🖤💛🐺💛🖤
If you would still like your child to participate but haven’t registered them yet, feel free to call the Youth Club at 487-5480.

City of Algoma preps beaches for Memorial Day weekend with new machine

The City of Algoma has starting using the Barber Surf Rake that was purchased this year thanks to a grant from the Fund for Lake Michigan and additional contributions from the Algoma Tourism & Promotion Committee and the Community Improvement of Algoma group. The Friends of Crescent Beach will also contribute to this important addition to the City’s equipment by helping with the first year’s maintenance costs. We hope this surf rake will keep Crescent Beach clean and looking great for years to come!

Check out the stories done by Fox 11 News of Green Bay and see the surf rake in action:

There aren’t too many people that like to look at negative posts on Facebook, especially on a Monday morning. But I guarantee there are more people that don’t like to look at soooo much garbage at Perry Field.
Sadly, last spring we had to lock the gates for a period of time because of all the trash on the ground. This affected people that like to use the park and don’t litter. It really didn’t seem fair. The garbage we’re seeing is definitely concentrated right by the basketball courts. If this problem is not taken care of we will be removing the basketball hoops for a period of time.
We can do better than this! There is a can right next to the court. Put your garbage in it.
