We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend with family and friends. As the grills cool down and the weekend winds down, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on why we observe this day.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend—it’s a time to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Honoring Captain G.D. “Mac” McIntyre – 50 years Gone, Never Forgotten

Today, we pause to honor the memory of Captain G.D. “Mac” McIntyre, who died in the line of duty on May 23, 1976, after suffering cardiac arrest while operating at a residential kitchen fire in Lake in the Hills.

Captain McIntyre dedicated 24 years of service to the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and also served as the Civil Defense Director for the Village of Algonquin and Assistant Civil Defense Director for McHenry County. He worked 37 years as a station agent for the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company.

He was a respected leader and public servant, remembered not only for his contributions to the fire service but also for his devotion to family. He was survived by his wife, three children, two grandchildren, and his father.

Captain McIntyre’s legacy is also permanently remembered at the Firefighters’ Memorial at Riverfront Park.

We will never forget Captain McIntyre’s dedication, leadership, and the ultimate sacrifice he made in service to our community.

Bridging the Gap to the Next Big Adventure!

Today, crews had the absolute honor of hosting a very special milestone at the firehouse. The girls of Brownie Troop 2128 officially "bridged" over to become Junior Girl Scouts!

The girls took their symbolic steps across the bridge right in the apparatus bay, with Truck 181 serving as the ultimate backdrop. We were thrilled to be there to cheer them on, celebrate their hard work, and welcome them into this exciting new chapter of leadership and community service.

To the newest Junior Girl Scouts in our community: congratulations, Troop 2128! Keep leading, keep learning, and thank you for letting us be a part of your big day.

Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, the firefighters of Local 3985 pause to remember and honor the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

To our partners at the Algonquin Police Department, the Lake in the Hills Police Department, and all agencies across the nation: we stand with you today and every day. Thank you for your bravery, your service, and your sacrifice. We will never forget those we’ve lost.

Happy Mother's Day! 🌷

To the mothers, wives, and grandmothers of our members: thank you. Thank you for holding down the fort during 24-hour shifts, missed holidays, and late-night calls. We couldn't do what we do without your support and love keeping our families running.

A special shoutout goes to the mothers working in public service, dispatchers, police officers, nurses, and EMS personnel, who balance serving the public with raising their families.

We hope every mom in Village of Algonquin, Illinois and Village of Lake in the Hills has a wonderful, safe Sunday surrounded by the people who love them most!
