Congratulations to Officers Emily Randazzo and Jakub Otocki for their successful graduation from the MCLETC Police academy last Friday!

Sixteen weeks of hard work and dedication has brought them back to the Algonquin Police Department to start their field training programs today! Also a shout out and congratulations to Officer Randazzo for being selected and honored with the Physical Fitness Award! We are looking forward to seeing what these Officers can add and contribute to the PD and our community!

Need a safe place to conduct your internet/social media sale or purchase? Look no further than your local police department. Our parking lot is under 24/7 video surveillance. Our lobby is open Monday through Friday 8-5 should you not feel safe during the transaction. Otherwise, you can call 911 if it is an emergency. Thank you to OfferUp for donating our signs.

Some other tips:
• Beware of scams, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is
• Tell a family member or friend where and when you are making the transaction as well the name of who you are meeting and your anticipated return
• Check the profile of the seller including any reviews or feedback
• Use a secure payment method like PayPal, Venmo, or a platform-integrated payment system and avoid exchanging large amounts of cash
• Trust your instincts, if anything seems off leave immediately
• Be aware of your surroundings and stay vigilant during the meetup
• Check the item thoroughly before handing over payment, carefully inspect the item to ensure it matches the description and is in the condition you expected.
• If you are the seller and are accepting cash, make sure you inspect the currency to make sure it is not counterfeit, look to make sure the serial numbers are not the same or that it is not movie prop money
• Bring a friend

Mark your calendars! We’re teaming up with our friends at Crystal Lake Police Department for Tip-a-Cop on Monday, August 24th from 4–8 PM at Texas Roadhouse!

We will be at the Texas Roadhouse located at 835 Cog Circle, Crystal Lake, IL.

Officers will be helping out around the restaurant, and the tips we collect will directly benefit Special Olympics Illinois.

Texas Roadhouse is also hosting a 10% Dine-to-Donate Night — just mention you’re there to support the cause, and a portion of your bill will be donated.

Come out, enjoy a great meal, and help us make a difference in the lives of Special Olympics athletes. We hope to see you there!

A reminder to our residents: Be a Responsible Pet Owner.
Almost every dog owner in Algonquin already walks their dog on leash. Please make sure you are one of them.
Recently in town, a leashed dog out for a walk was attacked by a dog that was off leash. The injuries were severe, and the dog could not be saved.
Protect yourself, your pet, and others. We are asking one thing: leash on before the door opens. Every walk, every time.
Village ordinance requires dogs to be leashed and under control any time they are off your property. Illinois law also holds owners responsible for what their dog does.
To report an off-leash or aggressive dog, call Algonquin Police non-emergency at 847-658-4531.

Earlier this week at the Village of Algonquin, Illinois board meeting we swore in four new police officers. Welcome Cory Hesthaven, Victoria Zychowska, Patrick Soderquist, and Erick Gonzalez. They will begin the police academy at the end of the month. Congratulations Cory, Victoria, Patrick, and Erick. Welcome to the Village of Algonquin and the Algonquin Police Department!

***Community Update***
Algonquin officers recently responded to the Target parking lot for a report of a possible child abduction after multiple witnesses called 911 about a juvenile yelling that the man she was with was not her father.
Officers responded with urgency, quickly located the vehicle, and investigated the situation. It was determined that the man was, in fact, the child's father. Both are safe, and no crime occurred.
We appreciate the witnesses who called 911. When it comes to the safety of a child, we will always respond quickly and take every report seriously.

As the 2026–2027 school year gets underway, the Algonquin Police Department reminds drivers to slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution around school buses and crosswalks.

Please watch for students, obey crossing guards and traffic signals, and remember that stopping for a school bus is the law. Let’s work together to keep our students safe this school year! 🚌🎒

It's been one week since our National Night Out . . . we want to thank our community as well as all of the local businesses for their participation--as well as the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District--it was a beautiful night celebrating our fantastic Village of Algonquin, Illinois! Looking forward to seeing everyone again next year!
