The Algonquin Police Department hosted our second annual Unified Police Academy in cooperation with Special Olympics Illinois on Wednesday, with six new Police Cadets who were sworn-in to be great community members! Our friends from the Algonquin Rotary Club and Southeast Emergency Communications (SEECOM) joined us to participate and run our cadets through five stations of activities including learning about defensive tactics and Police equipment, fingerprinting and evidence collection, 911/telecommunicators skills and calls, traffic stops, and even patrolling in the PD’s UTV throughout the community! After a quick lunch break, we moved into a drone presentation and then Unified Bocci, Bags, and some golfing! We hope that Janliz, Chloe, Taylor, Riley, Evan, and Danny all had as much fun as we did and learned a little more about who we are and what we do. We are very fortunate to have such an amazing community that supports our ongoing dedication to our Special Olympics Illinois athletes!

Last night, three officers received awards for their exemplary response to a medical emergency involving a juvenile. Officer S. Peters was honored with a Life Saving Award, Department Commendation, and Unit Citation. Officer E. Cedillo received a Life Saving Award and Unit Citation. Officer D. Moore was awarded a Unit Citation. We are extremely proud of the manner in which these officers responded, collaborated as a team, and applied their training, which ultimately resulted in the saving of a life.

This month is Mental Health Awareness Month, and support is just three numbers away: 988.

The 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline connects anyone experiencing a mental health, substance use, or su***de crisis with trained counselors 24/7 by call or text.

The Algonquin Police Department is proud to join the Kane County 988 Awareness Campaign to help spread the message that no one has to struggle alone.

If you or someone you know needs support, call or text 988.

Together, we can help break the stigma surrounding mental health and remind our community that help is always available.

Another field day in the books!

For the last couple of days, School Resource Officer Falardeau has been busy participating in field day events at Westfield community school and Nuebert Elementary District 300! ☀️🏃‍♂️🎉

He had a great time connecting with students and cheering them on as the school year winds down.

Thanks to all the staff and volunteers who helped make the events a success!

On National Peace Officers Memorial Day we honor those officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice and gave their life in service to others. We remember our own Officer Larry Holder, the only Algonquin Police Officer who died in the line of duty, who drowned on July 22, 1982.
