📣Officer Spotlight📣
This month’s Officer Spotlight recognizes the man behind the scenes—Deputy Chief Bryant Swallows. With 23 years in law enforcement, Deputy Chief Swallows has dedicated 20 of those years to serving the people of Algood. Having held nearly every position within the Algood Police Department—from Crossing Guard to Chief of Police—he has truly come up through the ranks, selflessly devoting his career to our beautiful city.
When asked to share some of his insight, Deputy Chief Swallows had this to say:
Q: What is your least favorite part of the job?
A: Doing battle with facts and logic against emotion and perception.
Q: What is your favorite part of the job?
A: No day is the same, and I am constantly challenged to solve problems.
Q: What is your educational history?
A: I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology and was fortunate to attend the FBI National Academy, Class 275. Beyond that, I’m a closet nerd and have gained a wealth of knowledge in too many areas to name.
Q: What’s your favorite quote?
A: I have many. One you may hear around the office is, “Is the juice worth the squeeze?” —Bryant Swallows.
Another favorite is, “No one is compelled to choose the profession of a police officer; but having chosen it, everyone is obligated to perform its duties and live up to the high standards of its requirements.” —President Calvin Coolidge.
I also like to add, “In so choosing, one does it at much self-sacrifice.”
As one of our primary training instructors, Deputy Chief Swallows is pictured alongside a scene from our Training Simulator. This advanced system allows officers to safely train in a controlled environment, covering scenarios such as de-escalation, traffic stops, domestic assaults, and active shooter situations—ensuring our officers are prepared to serve and protect our community with the highest level of professionalism.
