New titles, new beginnings, and a lot to celebrate! 🎉

This past week, we gathered to recognize our newly promoted members and welcome our newest employees to APD.

🚨 : Officers were alerted to a vehicle entering Alhambra that had been linked to a grand theft incident from another city. With help from our drone, Detectives followed the suspect as they cruised up and down residential streets, on the lookout for their next victim. Officers coordinated a traffic stop on Garfield Ave. and Shorb Ave., stopping the suspect before the next crime could occur.

Turns out, the female passenger was no stranger to trouble, as it was discovered that she had a full extradition warrant out of New York for robbery, plus connections to two robberies that occurred in Alhambra, where she stole the victims’ jewelry. Ultimately, Elena Dinu of Washington was arrested and booked at APD Jail, where the only jewelry she’ll be wearing is a set of shiny silver handcuffs.

Yesterday evening, your APD responded to what may have been our slowest pursuit yet, or so we thought! 🐢💨

The suspect was spotted heading northbound on Granada Ave., crossing Adams Ave., and fleeing into Almansor Park, where he eventually stopped on the soccer field for a snack.

As your APD arrived on scene, they quickly learned this suspect was a little more difficult to catch than expected. After some strategic corralling, our four-legged suspect (that's right, he was a tortoise) was safely contained. His owner was found nearby, and he was reunited with them shortly after.

His reason for leaving home remains unclear, but we suspect the grass at Almansor Park looked greener. For now, his days on the run have come to an end.

🚨 : Officers were near the area of Commonwealth Ave. and Wi******er Ave., where they noticed a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Los Angeles, CA. The driver pulled over and said he was just test-driving the vehicle after withdrawing $1,100 from the bank to buy it from the passenger. At first, the suspect gave a fake name, then told us he flips cars and bought the SUV on Facebook Marketplace from someone named Baron but never transferred the title.

The actual registered owner told police he’d tried to sell the car for $5,000 to a man calling himself “Aaron Marshall” via OfferUp. They met at McDonald’s, but after he handed over the keys for a cashier’s check, the buyer took off with the car, and the check turned out to be fake. Turns out the suspect, Patrick Rasmussen of Los Angeles, CA, had a history of similar incidents. Ultimately, Patrick was arrested, and his joyride ended at APD Jail.

📚 The backpacks are packed and the morning alarms are officially back on.

School is back in session for the Alhambra Unified School District . Millions of children ride school buses, walk to school, etc. everyday. Check out these quick safety reminders for a safe start to the school year!

Safety Tips for Drivers:
✏️ALWAYS stop when the school bus stop-arm is out.
✏️Follow the speed limit and laws especially in school zones and at bus stops.
✏️Slow down and watch for children walking in the street.

Safety Tips for Kids:
📎 Stand at least five giant steps from the curb when waiting for the school bus.
📎 Be sure to use marked crosswalks. Remember to look left, right, then left again before crossing.
📎 Never take shortcuts or cut through alleys, private property, or across vacant lots.
📎 Students should immediately report anyone suspicious to an adult – a parent, school personnel, or the school resource officer.

📲❌Lastly, never walk or drive distracted. Keep tabs on the road, not your phone!

🌟 Today, your APD hosted the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and several neighboring agencies in the SGV for a presentation by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs , LAPD CAMP, and . Presenters shared valuable resources available to assist older adults and veterans when law enforcement and mental health teams are out in the field.

We appreciate our community partners for sharing these resources and continuing to collaborate with law enforcement and mental health professionals to better serve our community members.
