Meet their staff, learn about programs and services, and share your ideas for the future of your local park. Your feedback will help shape our budget for the new fiscal year. LA County renters, homeowners, seniors, families, and fire survivors may be eligible for free homelessness prevention programs and services designed to help people stay safely housed. Support may include rental assistance, mortgage relief, utility assistance, legal aid, housing navigation, and more. Visit lacounty.gov/prevention to find support and get connected. AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE: Registration is officially open for the LACDA’s Public Housing Program Site-Based Waiting Lists. Deadline to apply is September 16, 2026 (5:00 PM). Interested individuals may register for one or more lists during this time. Learn more and apply at www.lacda.org. Please note, the County’s Section 8 Waiting List remains closed.

Today, we’re throwing it back to an inspiring conversation with Sharonda, a resident of our South Scattered Sites (SSS) public housing development, whose journey is a beautiful reminder of what resilience, opportunity, and determination can make possible. As a single mother raising her 10-year-old son, who has Down syndrome, she experienced homelessness but eventually found her way to the LACDA. Since becoming part of our public housing community, she has worked incredibly hard to build a stronger and more stable future for her family. She continues to shine as a leader and an inspiration in the SSS community. And this year, Sharonda celebrated a HUGE accomplishment. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration! But she’s not stopping there. She’s currently heading back to school to pursue her Master’s degree. Sharonda’s story is one of personal growth, leadership, and community impact.
