On December 15, 2025, a group of law enforcement officers, local business owners, and Derrick Jones sponsored a Shop with a Cop program for students throughout Pickens County. Aliceville Police Officers, along with Program Coordinator Derrick Jones, took approximately 35 children from Aliceville Elementary School and Pickens County Community Preschool shopping before Christmas, giving them the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas shopping.
I, Derrick Jones, would like to sincerely thank every business owner who donated to help fund this project. A special thank you goes to Drax for donating 40 bicycles. Lastly, I would like to thank our very own Aliceville Police Department for their dedication and efforts in making this event a successful and meaningful experience.
As first responders, we see firsthand the needs within our community and neighboring communities. This program helps bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community by showing our children that they should never be afraid to talk to law enforcement officers or any first responders.
Every child who participated in the shopping experience with an officer or Program Coordinator Derrick Jones received a bicycle and helmet, courtesy of Drax.
Police Chief Tonnie Jones and Program Coordinator Derrick Jones would like to thank everyone involved in making this project possible, including the Aliceville Police Officers, local business owners, Drax, Aliceville Elementary School, Pickens County Community Preschool, the City of Aliceville, and school bus drivers Michael Johnson and Shawn Murphy, who safely transported the students to and from the shopping event.
