A sweet way to wrap up the school year 🍦

Thank you to the Outside Scoop Ankeny, a local business owned and operated by a North Polk family, for donating ice cream to our buildings and helping make the last day extra special for our students and staff!

We’re proud of NPHS student Cash Van Baale, who participates in the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Cadet (PSC) program, an experience helping him explore a future career in law enforcement.

The program meets once a month at headquarters, where cadets engage in hands-on, scenario-based training focused on communication, decision-making, and real-world response, along with community events that build stronger connections between law enforcement and the community.

Through the program, Cash has connected with deputies, gaining insight into education and career steps after high school. His favorite part so far has been ride-alongs, which provide a firsthand look at daily responsibilities in the field.

This experience is helping him build leadership, communication, and responsibility skills while connecting classroom learning to future career pathways.

Congratulations to our North Polk programmers for earning 1st place at the Spring 2026 DMACC D-Code Competition!

Their project, “Java the Hutt,” is an interactive farm simulation game built with real programming systems, including keyboard and mouse controls, timer-based updates, and live tracking of stats like water, health, and crop growth.

As students play, the game constantly updates in real time and uses logic to determine what happens next, including win and loss outcomes based on their decisions.

In simple terms, they built a fully functioning, playable game from scratch using real coding concepts.

Congrats to our Comet coders!
