Social Media Policy: CityofAllen.org/SocialPolicy The library became a city department in 1971.

Mayor Gentry Jones proclaimed Allen Public Library Day on October 22, 1967, when the Allen Public Library (APL) first opened its doors as an all-volunteer organization. In February 2005, the library opened in its current location at 300 North Allen Drive. The library was temporarily closed for 16-month long renovation and expansion project. It reopened its doors to the public on December 8, 2025. This 72,000 square-foot, two-story facility serves as the main hub for the community’s cultural, informational and learning needs. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life of our users by supporting their life-long learning and informational needs. We do this by offering programs for various user groups in our community, and by providing programs and services to meet the cultural and educational needs and interests of Allen. We strive to be a welcoming place that inspires the mind.

¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!

For Hispanic Heritage Month, we had the talented Mariachi Michoacan perform at our Civic Auditorium!

While this was their second time partnering with the Library, this was their first time performing on our stage.

Mariachi Michoacan has been performing across North Texas since 1986 with arrangements from the Southwest and Mexico. We are so glad we had the chance to feature them this month!

If you missed the live performance or want to take another listen, the full performance will be uploaded on YouTube.com/AllenCityTV in the near future.

Did you notice any new artwork at the Library 👀

In partnership with the Visual Arts League of Allen, we are displaying a new exhibit with a new theme, Stories from Home! We are proud to display these 18 pieces by local artists once again and hope you'll take the time to admire their hard work. If you're interested in learning more about each item, flip through the binder in front of the display.

These pieces are placed next to the Check Out Desk on the first floor and will be up until Sunday, Jan. 10.

Thanks again to VALA (Visual Arts League of Allen, TX) for choosing our Library for this project. For more information, visit VALATX.org.
