The Celery Farm is a 107-acre freshwater wetland in Allendale, NJ, open to the public during daylight hours every day of the year. Over 250 species of birds have been recorded here; more than 50 are known to breed here. It is designated an Important Bird & Birding Area by New Jersey Audubon. The wetlands and deciduous woods provide crucial habitat for many mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, butt
erflies and insects. It also acts as a "sponge" to absorb storm water runoff, reducing the incidence of flooding in nearby areas. According to Borough of Allendale ordinance: pet dogs are not permitted as they are a disturbance to the resident wildlife. Other prohibited activities include fishing, boating, feeding/capturing/harming wildlife, littering, picking plants and flowers, and releasing wildlife. No motorized vehicles, including drones, are allowed in the nature sanctuary. Volunteers from Fyke Nature Association (FNA) assist the Borough in maintaining and improving Celery Farm facilities including the trails around the preserve, the three observation platforms and the nesting boxes. FNA also provides all the funds required. For more information, see: fykenature.org. Please support this work through membership, donations, and volunteering.
