Allendale Fire Department

AFD has served the residents of Allendale, NJ for over 100 years. It is staffed by professionally trained volunteers 24/7/365. Emergency 9-1-1.

Our mission is to provide the Borough of Allendale with Fire and Rescue services and provide support to the community. The Allendale Volunteer Fire Department is located at 1 Erie Plaza in Allendale, NJ. AVFD houses Engine 935, Engine 932, Truck 9 (941) and Rescue 9 (942). The department has about 50 active members and is 100% Volunteer. Each member goes through extensive firefighter training and

certification. Some members are trained at a higher level in technical rescue, heavy vehicle extrication, hazmat, confined space, collapse, and even emergency medical services. Department membership is open to anyone living in the borough and surrounding towns over the age of 18 years (16 to 18 years for our Junior Dept.) and information about joining can be obtained by stopping by Fire Headquarters any Thursday evening between 7:30 and 9:00 PM.

This past weekend AFD was dispatched to a residence in the borough for an activated smoke detector, upon arrival crews were met with smoke inside the structure. Crews investigated and determined it was a shut flu in a fireplace causing the smoke to back into the house. Crews opened flu and vented the structure and ensured no smoke/carbon monoxide was present.

Another reminder that smoke detectors save lives! Please check all your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors are in working order!

Early this morning, AFD was dispatched to a residence in the borough for a reported CO alarm. Homeowner was sleeping and was alerted by their Carbon Monoxide detector going off. AFD responded within minutes to find approximately 50ppm of CO inside the home. Crews worked for hours along with PSE&G to vent and make the structure safe. Thankfully, no one was hospitalized. Please take this as an important reminder to check your Carbon Monoxide detectors and smoke alarms. It is recommended you replace both every 5-10 years. Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectors save lives!
