Greenawalds Fire/Rescue 11

Yesterday, South Whitehall companies were sent to the 4000blk of Wedgwood Road for a fire alarm. Moments later, calls began coming in to Lehigh County 9-1-1 reporting fire coming from the residence. South Whitehall Township Police Department patrol units confirmed a large header from their HQ. The box was upgraded, bringing in mutual aid companies from surrounding municipalities.

Engine 11 arrived first due beginning fire attack, backed up by Engine Tanker 32 which operated as the main water supply due to a lack of hydrants in the neighborhood.

Chief 11, Deputy 11-1, Rescue Engine 11, Rescue 11 and Tanker 11 also responded and crews operated onscene for approximately 3 hours.

Last evening at training, several live fire evolutions marked the culmination and successful completion of probationary training for three of our members.

Congratulations to Firefighters Brubacher, Ambrose, and Bachenberg on meeting all required professional and Greenawalds standards and joining the ranks of our senior firefighters and officers!!

This morning, Rescue 11 w/ 6 and Chief 11 responded to Salisbury Township to assist at a terrain rescue

Last night while relocated to Central Fire Station in the City of Allentown, Rescue Engine 11 was sent as part of the 4th Alarm assignment to the 300blk of N Front Street for the commercial fire. Rescue Engine 11, and eventually Rescue 11 (6th alarm assignment), were assigned to exposure protection and extinguishment. Greenawalds crews operated onscene for just shy of 5 hours before being released.

Last evening, several officers and members of Greenawalds Fire/Rescue were formally recognized by the South Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners for their lifesaving actions at an incident on January 18, 2026. Members responded within 30 seconds of dispatch to a patient who had experienced a sudden cardiac arrest in his home. Arriving on scene within 2 minutes, the crew continued CPR originally initiated by the patient’s wife and were able to defibrillate in under 6 minutes from the initial dispatch. Crews continued resuscitation efforts along with the arriving Cetronia Ambulance Corps crews and were able to achieve Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) prior to transport to the hospital.

Miraculously after the patient underwent cardiac catheterization he was able to make a full recovery with no deficits and returned home after a short hospitalization.

Our grateful and gracious patient and his heroic wife, who started CPR, were able to join us for the ceremony. We are incredibly proud of our members and this tremendous outcome! Congratulations to our award recipients as we wish our patient many more years of good health!

On this Memorial Day and every day, Greenawalds Fire/Rescue 11 remembers those who have sacrificed their lives in service to our nation. As has become our tradition, members of the department alongside family and friends from the community, complete an intense workout named in honor of US Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor Recipient Lt. Michael Murphy (KIA 6/28/2005 Kunar, Afghanistan during Operation Red Wings).
