AHS instructor Ashtyn Vivian led a two-day Woods & Welds workshop teaching youth foundational welding techniques and how to build basic joints. Participants then applied those skills to create wooden boxes and cutting boards, gaining hands-on experience in both metal and woodworking. In addition to technical and life skills development, all projects completed at the workshop are eligible for entry at the Box Butte County Fair in August—an exciting opportunity to showcase their work.

Our Summer Maker Day brought together 20 youth who learned to use power tools to build a bookshelf, explored creativity painting doormats and serving trays, and finished the day constructing a crate ottoman. Great skills, great fun!

At our Snap & Shoot Photography Workshop, Steph Mantooth shared her years of photography experience to inspire and educate young aspiring photographers. The kids learned essential composition rules to capture stunning photos, discovered how to crop their images effectively before printing, and gained valuable tips on matting their photos for display. Additionally, Steph provided helpful advice for entering photos into the county fair, empowering the youth to showcase their best work with confidence.

It's been a busy week at the Box Butte County Extension Office — summer workshops are in full swing! A group of youth participated in our Marvelous Muffins Workshop. They started with a basic muffin recipe and then personalized their muffins with their favorite add-ins, from healthy blueberries and strawberries to the sweeter side with chocolate chips and lots of sprinkles.

Summer days aren't just for working on 4-H livestock projects! Some of our Senior Livestock Judging Team recently hit the road to compete at the Nebraska Livestock Judging Classic in Kearney.

Congratulations to these outstanding youth on their accomplishments:

🏆 Ainslee – 2nd Place Goats
🏆 Trey – 3rd Place Sheep
🏆 Railey – 10th Overall Individual

The team also earned an impressive 4th Place Overall Team finish!
