🚨 National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 🚨

As Telecommunicators Week comes to an end, we want to take a moment to reflect on the faces—and voices—behind the headset.

This week, we’ve had the opportunity to highlight just a few of the dedicated individuals who serve our community from inside the communications center. Each story, each perspective, and each experience shared is a reminder of the critical role our dispatchers play every single day.

Behind every call is a voice that stays calm in chaos, offers reassurance in uncertainty, and ensures help is on the way.

The work isn’t always seen, and often goes unrecognized—but it never stops.

💛 While this week may be ending, the work continues—24/7, 365. 💛

📞 Telecommunicator Spotlight – Telecommunicators Week 📞

Today we’re highlighting Emma, one of our Public Safety Dispatchers! She has been dispatching for a little over 4 years.

Emma shared a reflection on something she wishes the public better understood about the job:

“Something I wish the public knew about our job is how much more there is to it than answering calls and dispatching help. Behind the scenes, many of us take on additional roles like training, victim advocacy, mental health support, and public relations. These responsibilities take ongoing time and training, but they’re a big part of what makes the job so meaningful.

This work isn’t just about responding to emergencies—it’s also about supporting our teams, strengthening our agency, and continuously improving how we serve the community. That side of the job often goes unseen, but it’s what helps keep everything running and allows us to be proactive in public safety, not just reactive.”

We are proud to have her on the team, and thankful for her dedication and the work she does every day to serve our community.

💛 She is a perfect example of an outstanding Public Safety Dispatcher. Thank you, Emma, for everything you do.

📞 Telecommunicator Spotlight – Telecommunicators Week 📞

Today we’re proud to recognize Leigh, who has been serving the City of Alliance as a Public Safety Dispatcher for just under 9 years.

When asked what makes the job so rewarding, Leigh shared:

"Being a 911 telecommunications operator is one of the most rewarding jobs because you are the calm in someone’s worst moment. You don’t see the faces, but you hear everything—the fear, the panic, the relief. And in those moments, your voice matters.

You’re the one guiding a mother through helping her child breathe again, the one staying on the line when someone feels completely alone, the one making sure help is on the way when seconds matter most.

You may not always see the outcome, but you know you made a difference—and that’s something not many careers can give you."

Leigh also shared what she wishes the public better understood about the profession:

"We don’t just answer phones—we answer people on the worst day of their lives. We hear things we can’t unhear, make decisions in seconds, and carry those moments with us long after the call ends. And still, we show up, ready to help the next person who needs us."

With years of experience behind the headset, Leigh embodies the core of emergency communications—dedication, strength, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. We are truly grateful to have her as part of our team and thankful every day for the experience and care she brings to our department.

💛Thank you, Leigh, for everything you do. 💛

Today, on Day 3 of Telecommunicators Week, we’re honored to share a few words from our Chief.

"During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, I want to take a moment to recognize the men and women behind the headset who are often the first voice people hear on their worst day.

Before I ever wore a badge, I started my career as a dispatcher. That experience shaped how I view this profession and gave me a deep appreciation for the skill, composure, and professionalism it takes to do this job well. Our telecommunicators are the calm in the chaos, gathering critical information, providing life-saving instructions, and ensuring officers, firefighters, and EMS can respond safely and effectively.

The work they do is demanding, often unseen, and absolutely essential to public safety. They are a vital part of our team and a direct link between our community and emergency services.

To our dispatchers: thank you for your dedication, your resilience, and your commitment to serving the citizens of Alliance. Your work does not go unnoticed, and I am proud to have started where you are."

🚨 National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 🚨

This week, we recognize the voices behind the call—the calm in chaos, the steady presence in emergencies, and the unseen first responders working behind the scenes 24/7.

We are proud of the dedication, professionalism, and compassion our dispatchers show every single day.
