oseph N. Rubin, a musicologist with American Musical Productions, will present “Programming the Past: An Alliance City Band Encore” on Wednesday, July 1 at 11 a.m. at Rodman Public Library.

The talk is a prelude to a July 4 concert inside Silver Park that will reenact one from exactly a century ago.

During his library talk, Rubin will take the audience on a musical multimedia journey through his efforts to uncover and recreate turn-of-the-century band concert programs. Featuring video clips from his “living history” concerts throughout the state, he will detail newly discovered facts about the Alliance City Band and its longtime director Emil Rinkendorf.

Did you know there's a Revolutionary War veteran buried in Alliance?

Do you know how Stark County got it's name?

Start celebrating American Independence early on Monday, June 29 when Jack Weber, community relations manager at Rodman Public Library and a member of the board of directors of the Alliance Historical Society, presents "Shreve and Stark: Alliance's Connections to the Revolutionary War."

Identical presentations will be given at both 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Chess anyone?

The Rodman Chess Club will be in session tomorrow (Wednesday, June 17). The club is open to players of all ages and all skill levels.

Held on the third Wednesday of each month between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. inside Rodman Auditorium, there is no formal membership. Numerous boards are set up and players mingle to find opponents throughout the evening. Players are welcome to come and go throughout the program and no registration is required.

Wednesdays during June and July mean Summer Storytime at the Branch.

Sessions are held at 10:30 a.m. and at noon. No registration is necessary to join in the fun that includes music, movement, an activity, and of course, stories.

While the dinosaurs prevailed, the "survivors" put up a valiant effort trying to escape during our Jurassic Escape Room on Thursday, June 11.

The escape room was inspired by Jurassic Park and featured a variety of puzzles to solve in order to unlock a box that held a walkie-talkie to call for "rescue."
