Such a great day for all our 4th grade youth!

Such a great day for all our 4th grade youth!

Safety when working around animals is also a favorite session on Farm Safety Day. Pictured here are the North Butler FFA Students answering questions from the 4th graders and how to be safe around large animals.

On Thursday May 7, the Butler County Extension held their farm safety day where students from the county learn how to identify and deal with farm safety hazards. This was held at the fairgrounds in Allison. There were 150 youth and adult leaders from Aplington-Parkersburg, Clarksville, and North Butler elementary schools that participated.

The students rotated through 12 sessions including railroad, chemical, electrical, bike, water, tractor, fire, firearm, animal, grain, ATV, and sun safety. Presenters that helped make this event possible were Frances Edeker, Terry Basol, Butler County REC, the Sheriff’s Department, Parkersburg Fire Department, A-P FFA, North Butler FFA, and 4-H County Council members. The purpose of our Ag Safety Day is to equip young people with the knowledge they need to be safe when they visit farms or other agricultural entities and are exposed to dangers they may never encountered before.

Each year at the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day event the Butler County Farm Bureau serves lunch to the people involved in the presentations. This year 40 presenters enjoyed beef burgers, chips, brownies and drinks at lunch.
