As we go into this holiday weekend, the City of Alma Police Department would like to remind everyone to Move Over or Slow Down for Emergency Vehicles.

🚔 Georgia’s Move Over Law🚔

O.C.G.A. § 40-6-16

When approaching a stationary emergency vehicle or authorized service vehicle in the roadway:

➡️ MOVE OVER one lane if it is safe and possible.

➡️ If you cannot safely move over, SLOW DOWN to below the posted speed limit and be prepared to stop.

The law is designed to protect law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, tow truck operators, highway workers, utility workers, and other roadside workers.

Slow down. Move over. Save a life.

🚨PROPERTY THEFT- INFORMATION NEEDED🚨

The Alma Police Department is investigating the theft of a trailer from property located on Blue Bell Drive within the City of Alma.

The trailer was last seen approximately two weeks prior to being reported stolen.

A set of keys were found downtown in front of the theater. Please give make of vehicle on the keyfob to claim. They can be picked up at the Alma Police Department Office.

🚨 Operation Southern Slow Down 🚨

This week, July 13-July 18, the City of Alma Police Department will be participating in Operation Southern Slow Down, a regional traffic safety campaign focused on reducing speed-related crashes and making our roadways safer for everyone.

During this enforcement period, officers will conduct increased traffic enforcement throughout the City of Alma and surrounding areas with a focus on speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors. Our goal is to encourage safe driving habits and prevent crashes before they happen.

Speeding continues to be a leading factor in serious injury and fatal crashes. We encourage all motorists to slow down, buckle up, put down distractions, and make safety a priority every time they get behind the wheel.

Together, we can make the roads of the City of Alma safer for residents, visitors, and families traveling through our community.

Press Release

On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the City of Alma Police Department received a call in reference to a male lying in the yard unresponsive. Alma Police Officers responded to the location and determined the male was deceased upon arrival. Alma-Bacon County Crime Suppression Unit was called to investigate the death.

Preliminary investigation determined that the victim, Willie Williams, 67, of Sanford, FL, had suffered a gun shot wound. After receiving many tips from the community, CSU was able to follow those leads that led to an arrest. CSU arrested and charged Danta Isaiah Knox, 18, of Alma, GA. with Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of Felony (x2) and Tampering with Evidence.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation. Additional charges and details may become available as the investigation continues.

Chief Andre Brinson would like to thank the Alma-Bacon County Crime Suppression Unit, Bacon County Sheriff’s Office, and Alma Police Department Officers who had a hand in solving this crime. Chief Brinson would like to especially thank the community for stepping up and flooding us with so many leads that led to this arrest. Without your help this would not have been possible.
