The Wabaunsee County Appraiser’s Office has begun doing annual reinspection’s for 2026.

Meet Kim, our appraisal data collector, she will be visiting several properties this spring & summer to get updated photos and check for any major changes on your property. Please be courteous to her as she travels through the county fulfilling the requirements set by the State of Kansas.

K.S.A. 79-1476 states that every parcel of real property shall be actually viewed and inspected by the county appraiser once every six years. It is the appraiser’s responsibility to update inventories for each real property and entry thereof into the state computer system (Orion).

We will predominantly be in the City of Alma and surrounding areas. We do have some isolated parcels scattered throughout the county that will also need to be inspected to remain in compliance.
If you believe you may be on this list and have a locked gate, protective dogs, or would just prefer to have a scheduled time while you are home, please call the office (785) 765-3508 to make arrangements.
Thank you.

Beginning Wednesday, April 1, the Flint Hills Smoke Management Plan is in effect for sixteen Kansas counties including Wabaunsee County. https://ksfire.org/

Open burning is restricted during the month of April.
Allowed burning includes burning for the purpose of Range or Pasture Management and Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)

No brush pile burning will be allowed.

These restrictions are in place due to increased prescribed burning across the Flint Hills and to limit additional smoke in the area.

Wabaunsee County does require a Burn Permit - the Permit Holder is required to call 785-765-3323 immediately prior to burning.
Permit applications available at:

Incredible piece of Wabaunsee County History

This March 1920 photo shows the Denver House in McFarland (Wabaunsee County) on fire. Firefighters attempted to extinguish the blaze, but flames overtook the hotel and it burned to the ground. The hotel was built in 1887, the same year McFarland was founded. It was built and operated by John Winkler, one of the founders of Alma (Wabaunsee County). He built his first hotel in Alma in 1867, and he later built a second hotel there. Check out this photo at www.kansasmemory.gov/item/306793
