QUICKEN FOR AG WORKSHOP: Now that many of us survived another year of tax preparations, let’s think about how we are maintaining our financial information. Is there room for improvement? Quicken is a financial software program that works well for many agriculture operations. The program is user-friendly and inexpensive. I am offering a hands-on workshop for folks to test the program and learn the ins and outs. The workshop is scheduled for Monday, March 21st, at 6:00 pm in the Maple Hill Senior Center. Registration is required ($10 due March 16th) and will cover your meal (catered by Alma Bakery) and all materials. We will learn the Quicken program while using examples for farms, ranches, and households. Although we will focus a lot on the ag producer, the Quicken principles covered will apply to any family or small business. Quicken is a feasible option, regardless of your age and experience level. Beginners and the computer savvy will benefit. All of the materials we reference throughout the workshop are yours to keep! They will provide additional support when you begin using Quicken at home. The goal of this workshop is for all participants to leave feeling capable of applying Quicken to their operation and family finances.
PRIVATE PESTICIDE APPLICATOR’S CERTIFICATION TESTING: While we’ve got the Maple Hill Senior Center reserved, why not pack the house!? For those that have been procrastinating the Private Pesticide Applicator’s Certification, NOW is the time to knock it out. On Monday, March 21st, the Maple Hill Senior Center will be open 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. for testing. Plan for 2-3 hours to complete the exam; you must begin by 7:00 p.m. The test is open book, 75 multiple choice questions. Book is provided at the training or may be picked up from my office early. No RSVP is required to take the test, but we do request it if possible. Currently, the certification period is 5 years. But, EPA is making changes to the requirements and certification timeline. I am encouraging producers to take the test now! Adjustments may be in place as early as January 2017.There is a $25 exam fee payable to KS Department of Agriculture. If you want supper (catered by Alma Bakery), there is a $10 meal fee due by March 16th. Tonya Hensley, Wab Co Noxious W**d Director, will be on site during the testing.
