Downtown Alpena: a year-round cultural destination in Northern Michigan, blending historic charm with authenticity and unique waterfront experiences. Located on the shores of the Thunder Bay River and beautiful Lake Huron, Downtown Alpena has been the economic hub of Northeast Michigan since the city was settled in the 1870's. Our downtown is home to a diverse and vibrant set of over 200 businesse

s, including art galleries, three theaters, a winery, brewery, and cidery, the first National Marine Sanctuary on the Great Lakes, and a variety of offices, restaurants, bars, non-profits and shops. Walk through downtown and you'll find over 30 pieces of public art and a variety of architectural styles including Italianate, modernist, and more! Alpena is the third largest city in Northern Michigan, and our downtown is proud to be the commercial and cultural heart of our community.

Still can’t get over this watering can installation from this year’s Flower Fest 💦🌷

A few months ago, we texted Matt from Superior Fabrication an image of a larger than life watering can we saw on Pinterest and asked if there was any way they could design and fabricate it for this year’s festival. Without hesitation, they said “absolutely, we will make it happen.”

And wow, they did! A huge thank you to Matt and the Superior Fabrication team for bringing this showstopper to life, City of Alpena Department of Public Works for getting it delivered and putting it in place, and Falls Creek Produce & Flowers for decking it out with flowers.

Our community is lucky to have you!

Give Superior Fab a call at 989-354-8877 for any of your metal fabricating needs.

What if Downtown Alpena had a community-owned grocery store?

Join us to learn about efforts to create a food co-op in Alpena—a grocery store owned by and operated for the community.

With only one grocery store remaining within city limits, a food co-op could expand daily access to fresh, nutritious food and everyday grocery, pantry, and bulk foods, support local farmers and producers, and create a welcoming gathering place in Downtown Alpena.

Come hear about:
🍓 What a food co-op is
🍓 Why it matters for Alpena
🍓 Progress made so far
🍓 How you can get involved

Whether you’re passionate about local food, tired of driving across town for groceries, or simply curious, we’d love to see you there!
