In the wake of the tragic fire at a nightclub in Switzerland on New Year's Day, many are asking what a flashover fire is.

Flashover is the sudden, simultaneous ignition of everything in a room, and investigators say this is very likely what occurred in the Swiss blaze that left 40 people dead and more than 100 others injured.

This morning marked Lieutenant Waterson's last full-time shift as a firefighter for L1859 and Alpena Township Fire Department. Joining the team over three years ago, Scott brought invaluable expertise to the department. Now, as he retires, Scott anticipates spending quality time with his wife, dogs, and family, and enjoying increased travel opportunities. The department will miss Lieutenant Waterson's dedication. Bidding farewell to Lt. Stephens, an exceptional leader who served the township fire department with distinction. He excelled as a union president for numerous years and will be remembered as a good friend. Chris's departure is due to a new job opportunity, allowing him to spend more time with his family. He will be deeply missed. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
