Here’s a memorible video of AMAP meeting some amazing, active seniors in the community. That day, three volunteers were recruited, and two special friendships began with seniors. Today, one of those seniors proudly serves on Adopt a Mom and Pop’s Board of Directors!

Dementia Care Tip: Connect Before You Correct

Supporting someone living with dementia isn’t always about having the right answer. Sometimes, it’s about helping them feel safe, heard, and loved.

When they’re confused or remember something differently, try not to argue or constantly correct them. Instead:

🗣️ Speak calmly and simply.
❤️ Validate how they feel.
🤝 Reassure them: “You’re safe. I’m right here.”
🌿 Gently redirect when they become upset.
📸 Encourage familiar and meaningful activities.
💙 Always protect their dignity.

Remember: You may not be able to change the confusion, but you can change how they feel in that moment.
