In the early morning hours of Saturday, October 18th, Alpine Fire Department responded to a report of smoke and flames visible from a commercial building in the 1600 block of W US Hwy 90.

Upon arrival, crews found a large work shed, adjoining to a commercial structure, had significant fire involvement. Marathon Volunteer Fire Department was requested for mutual aid.

Fire crews worked quickly to contain and extinguish the blaze, successfully preventing the fire from spreading through the entire structure. Although the fire extended into one storefront, it was contained before the area became fully involved. Fortunately, all businesses were closed and unoccupied at the time.

We would like to thank Marathon Volunteer Fire Department for their assistance in knocking down the fire and helping with overhaul operations.

Today, we solemnly remember the lives lost and the heroes who rose on September 11, 2001. Alpine Fire Rescue honors the bravery of the firefighters and first responders who ran towards danger to save others, many making the ultimate sacrifice. We reflect on the resilience of our nation and the strength of our community as we stand united in remembrance. Let us hold close the memory of that day, keeping those affected in our hearts, and committing ourselves to serving and protecting others everyday.

On Saturday, August 30th, Alpine Fire personnel responded to a vehicle off the road incident on South SH118, just south of Big Hill. Upon arrival, crews used extrication equipment to access the patient. With assistance from USBP, TxDPS, and BCSO, fire crews lifted the patient in a rescue basket up to the roadway. The patient was then transported by Emergent EMS with moderate injuries.

Fire apparatus, working in conjunction with a wrecker, were able to recover the vehicle from the ditch. We thank all the agencies for their combined efforts in this swift rescue.

With the return of mild temperatures, many of us are firing up the grill.

Alpine Fire reminds you to keep safety in mind: Give your grill at least three feet of space from homes, decks, and children; keep it clean to avoid flare-ups; and let coals cool fully before tossing them out.

A little caution goes a long way in preventing grilling accidents!

Alpine works together as one team!
As the first responding emergency personnel, Officer Legaretta assisted by Fire Chief Pierce rescued an entrapped victim during a 2023 structure fire. This is a prime example of Alpine’s commitment to going above and beyond to help those in need.

Thank you, and congratulations, Officer Legaretta!

On March 20, 2023, Alpine Police Department Officer Karina Legaretta was dispatched to a residence on fire. After alerting responding units, Legaretta crawled through the window, discovering a burn victim. She was able to pull the victim out of the burning home with some assistance from the fire department. EMS transported the victim to a hospital in serious condition before he was later released.

According to the hospital facility and EMS staff, Legaretta's actions directly contributed to the individual's survival and she was commended for her actions by both her agency and the Alpine Fire Chief. Legaretta is currently a cadet in the academy of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement was honored to present her with the Valor Award at the State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Awards.
