💧🚒 What is Drafting?
When there isn’t a fire hydrant nearby, firefighters have another way to get the water they need.
Drafting is the process of using a fire engine’s pump to pull water from a static water source such as a pond, lake, river, or portable water tank. Before water can flow, the pump must be primed, removing the air from the pump and hard suction hose so it can establish a continuous water supply.
This skill is critical for protecting homes, businesses, and property in areas without hydrants. It takes training, teamwork, and a solid understanding of fire apparatus to quickly establish a reliable water source when every second counts.
Our firefighters regularly train on drafting operations to ensure we’re prepared to deliver water wherever the emergency takes us. 🚒💪
