Professional growth happens in the classroom, among peers, and under pressure in the OR.

Four separate Student Sessions at the FANA 2026 Annual Meeting bring different parts of that growth into focus.

The Hidden Curriculum of Nurse Anesthesia Education with Matthew Martin, CRNA, NorthStar Anesthesia, and Mandy Spitzer, DNP, CRNA, addresses the unwritten rules and expectations students encounter.

Those same speakers return for a separate session, Emerging Smoothly, focused on the leadership habits that shape long-term success in anesthesia practice.

Marley Cain, RRNA, and Chelsea Patterson, RRNA, bring peer mentorship into the conversation with Peer Mentorship: Surviving the First Year of Anesthesia School.

Later, Lindsey Bell, DNP, CRNA, AGACNP-BC, FNP-BC, APRN, and Marley Cain, RRNA, turn to confidence and professionalism in the OR during Clinical Growth Under Pressure.

Together, these distinct sessions move from understanding unwritten expectations and finding support to developing leadership habits and building clinical confidence.

The path toward nurse anesthesiology involves more than one big decision. Admission, the student experience, and financial preparation each bring their own questions.

At the FANA 2026 Annual Meeting, three separate Student Sessions bring those parts of the journey into focus:

🎓 Journey to CRNA School with Marley Cain, RRNA; Rebecca Fleetwood, RRNA; and Taylor Blyseth, RRNA looks at qualifications and strategies for admission.

🤝 Refreshments With Residents with Marley Cain, RRNA creates space for peer mentorship and the resident perspective for RNs considering CRNA school.

💰 Financing the Future with April Grasty, DNAP, CRNA, CNE focuses on student loans and financial preparation.

One Meeting. Three days. A lot to talk about!

The FANA 2026 Annual Meeting brings together sessions addressing the clinical, professional, and practical issues shaping nurse anesthesiology and the people preparing to enter the profession.

Swipe through for a look at six areas you'll find represented across the agenda:

🗣️ Advocacy & Health Care Policy
🎓 Pathways to Nurse Anesthesiology
🌱 Mentorship, Leadership & Clinical Growth
🩺 Clinical Practice & Pain Management
💡 Technology, Research & Emerging Ideas
🔄 Professional Sustainability

Each area encompasses multiple distinct sessions, with featured experts appearing in their respective presentations and scheduled panels.

That means conversations can move from Florida health care policy to clinical decision-making, mentorship to emerging research, and professional well-being to the economics of practice, all within one Meeting weekend.

What could you present at FANA 2026?

The answer may be sitting in a project you're already working on.

FANA welcomes poster abstracts featuring research, DNP scholarly projects, evidence-based practice initiatives, and innovative educational ideas from RRNAs and CRNA doctoral students enrolled in Florida Nurse Anesthesiology Programs.

Both student-led and faculty-mentored projects are welcome.

Faculty and Program Directors, this is also a great time to encourage eligible students whose work could contribute to the poster session to submit.

The history of nurse anesthesia is full of trailblazing women whose work shaped the profession we know today. AANA highlights Alice Magaw, known as the “Mother of Anesthesia,” and Agatha Hodgins, founder of the national association that became AANA. Their legacy lives on in every CRNA advancing patient care, education, and advocacy today.

AANA Annual Congress begins today! It’s one of the profession’s biggest opportunities to learn, connect, and celebrate the work of CRNAs and nurse anesthesiology residents from across the country. If any FANA members are attending in person or online, we’d love to hear what sessions or topics you’re most excited about.
