🦷 Preventive Dental Care at School! 🪥

CCPS excited to continue our partnership with Johnson’s Health to offer preventive dental care right here at school! This convenient program helps families support their child’s oral health without requiring time away from school.

⭐ Participation is completely optional and requires parent/guardian consent.

📅 Consent forms must be completed by August 31, 2026.

💧 Intro to Science Lab: Penny Drop Challenge! 🪙

Our students put the scientific method into action as they investigated just how many drops of water a penny can hold! They made predictions, tested their ideas, recorded results, and learned through hands-on experimentation.

What a fun way to kick off science and get our Tigers thinking like scientists! 🐯🧪

We’re back in school, and a good routine can make all the difference!

Consistent bedtimes, preparing backpacks and clothes the night before, and allowing a little extra time in the morning can help make the start of the day smoother for everyone.

Small routines at home can help students arrive at school on time, feeling prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

We are excited to offer Girls on the Run at Altavista Elementary! 🐯

Girls on the Run is a fun, supportive program that helps girls build confidence, friendships, healthy habits, and important life skills while working toward the exciting goal of completing a 5K together! 🌟

👟 Open to girls in 3rd, 4th & 5th grades
📅 Practices: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:30–5:00 PM
🏁 Season begins: September 1st
🎉 Celebratory 5K: November 21st at Sweet Briar College

🐾 PUTTING OUR BEST P.A.W.S. FORWARD! 🐾

Our administrators spent time visiting classrooms and talking with our Tigers about P.A.W.S., our schoolwide behavior expectations. Students learned what it means to put their best P.A.W.S. forward every day in every area of our school!

🐯 Teamwork in Action in 5th Grade! 🛟🐛

Mrs. Brooks’ 5th grade class took on the “Save Fred” Challenge today! Students had to work together to get Fred the worm safely back into his life preserver—with one big catch: they couldn’t touch any of the items with their hands!

There was lots of brainstorming, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration as students tested different ideas. After plenty of teamwork and perseverance, everyone successfully saved Fred! 🎉
