Alto Housing Authority will remain closed today as we are awaiting electrical repairs to our office building. At this time, we are hopeful that we will be able to reopen tomorrow. Our phone lines & internet service are also down due to the lack of electricity to the office building. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

Due to weather related damage, Alto Housing Authority is closed today. At this time, we are unsure when we will be able to reopen. We are awaiting Oncor repairs & then subsequent electrical repairs before we can reopen. Our phone lines are also down at this time. We are very sorry for any inconvenience.

When temperatures are forecasted to be at or below 32°, water pipes can freeze & burst. Please take steps to help protect your home from damage.
1) Leave Heat On! Do not turn your heat off, even if you will be away. 60° is the lowest recommended heat setting during freezing temperatures.
2) Let Faucets Drip! Turn all faucets, both hot & cold, on & let a fine stream drip. This includes your kitchen sink, bathroom sinks, bathtubs, showers, etc.
3) Open Cabinets! Leave cabinet doors under sinks open so that pipes will be well ventilated.
4) Be Alert! If you see anything unusual - for example if your water does not come on, or if you see water leaking anywhere in or around your home, notify maintenance immediately.

Alto Housing Authority will be CLOSING their PUBLIC HOUSING Waiting List to new applicants effective at midnight on FRIDAY, MARCH 15th, 2024. Online pre-applications will continue to be accepted, 24-hours / day on our website: https://www.altohousing.org through that day/time. In person applications can be submitted at the Alto Housing Authority office during regular office hours, Monday - Thursday mornings from 9 AM until 12 Noon each day up to 12 Noon on Thursday, March 14th, 2024.

HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER / SECTION 8 Waiting list opening for a LIMITED TIME ONLY, starting at 9 AM on Monday, May 17th, 2021. The list will be open Monday - Thursday mornings only from 9 AM until Noon. The final day will be Thursday, May 27th.

Because the list will be open for such a limited time only, we will NOT be sending out applications by mail, fax or e-mail. Applications must be picked up in person at the Alto Housing Authority office located at 282 Wright Patman Drive in Alto -- adjacent to B & B Grocery. If you need directions or have any questions about what documents to bring with you when you apply, send an e-mail to us at [email protected]. You can also CALL us at (936) 858-4921.

REPORTING CHANGES

Whether you are an APPLICANT, a Public Housing RESIDENT or a Section 8 PROGRAM PARTICIPANT, if you have had a change in your income -- whether it is due to the corona virus business slow-down or any other reason, remember that you MUST REPORT YOUR CHANGE TO THE OFFICE IN WRITING WITHIN TEN DAYS OF THE DATE OF THE CHANGE. Since our office is closed to regular walk-in visits right now, you can drop one of those pink change forms we gave you during your recent annual recertification into the overnight drop box beside the front door OR you can e-mail us information about your change. Applicants will need to request a pink change form OR e-mail us. The office e-mail address for reporting changes is: [email protected].

If we need to contact your employer to verify your change (and we probably will), you may need to sign another document, which we'll send to you by mail (if you are a Section 8 client) or deliver to your apartment door (if you are a Public Housing resident). Sign it where indicated and then RETURN IT TO THE OFFICE. WE will send it to your employer. We can NOT accept change reports by telephone or voice mail. It's sweet that you thought to call us, but nothing is OFFICIAL unless it is in WRITING. 😊 Changes reported in writing before the 20th day of the month will be processed for the following month's rent amount. If we received your report AFTER the 20th day of the month, it won't impact your rent until the month AFTER NEXT.

I would like to Thank the ENTIRE community and the surrounding cities that have so graciously came to our city's rescue. When we woke up on Saturday Morning we all thought it was just another day but that changed around noon when the weather quickly changed and devastated all of our lives. I am so PROUD of the citizens of our BIG little city, the love that has been shown by everyone has reminded a lot of us the way things are supposed to be, helping one another with love and kindness. " LOVE THY NEIGHBOR" !!
