Madison County Community Development Block Grant training will be held Thursday Feb 9 at 10 AM and 2 PM in the Madison County Administration Building Room 203, 157 North Main, Edwardsville. The CDBG program provides opportunities to obtain funding for projects which can improve your community. The area must be low to moderate income and the project must address a need where conditions pose a threat to the community. For example, last year I worked on a project in my District to fund road improvements to allow better access to a fire station. If you have questions, let me know or call Madison County Community Development at 692-8940.

Dear Friends of Kathy Smith: We are walking on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. to gather signatures for Kathy's petitions to be on the Ballot for State Representative. We will meet at Mary Goode's office in Bethalto. The office is located on Rt. 140, between Dairy Queen and Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. We will have donuts and coffee from 8:30-9:00 a.m. We will walk from 9:00-1:00 p.m. and then return to Mary's office for Pizza and soda. If you cannot walk that day and would like to help gather signatures, please contact me, and I will get a petition to you. If you cannot walk the 4 hours, we would appreciate any time you can give us that day.

Attended Real Estate Tax Cycle, Finance, and Judiciary Committee meetings this week! Hosted SIUE Journalism Student writing about Government for The Alestle newspaper. Headed south to meet constituents in Alton. District is diverse - farms, businesses @ Homer Adams Parkway, residential. Needs are different. Genuine concern is needed. This District is made of people looking out for neighbors and supporting community.

Water Districts, Fire Districts, Sewer Districts. These groups provide services to our communities and many go unnoticed. I have gotten to know the members of our Fire Protection District (not to mention our great fire fighters!) along with our Water Districts. Local citizens serve these organizations to make sure we have the services we need.
