Our Virtual Library Never Closes! Our Brick-and-Mortar Building Hours:

Tuesday & Thursday: 11:00 am - 7:0

Saturday: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Closed Sundays, Mondays, and Holidays. The Gilman Library observes five holidays per year with the following closures:

New Year's Day - January 1st
Independence Day - July 4th
Veteran's Day - November 11th
Thanksgiving - 4th Thursday & following Friday, in November
Christmas Day - December 25th

This week's Theater Thursday Matinee (8/20) is a 1981 heartfelt drama, set in Maine on a pond that is golden, about a cranky older man, his upbeat wife, and a special boy with whom they form a bond during their 48th summer at their lake house.

Spend part of your week at Gilman Library! We have a variety of programs for all ages, whether you're looking to learn something new, relax, or connect with others.

Join us for Storytime on Wednesday, Hawaiian Steel Guitar and our weekly Movie Matinee on Thursday, Meditation Thursday evening, and Mahjong Club and Clues and Crimes Mystery Book Group on Friday.

On Thursday at 6:00 PM, the Alton Historical Society will be meeting at the library. Looking ahead, the Friends of the Library will meet on Tuesday, August 25 at 6:30 PM.

Join us for another great week at Gilman Library!

This week's schedule includes Alton Book Chat on Tuesday at 7:00 PM, Storytime on Wednesday at 10:30 AM, Hawaiian Steel Guitar and our Movie Matinee on Thursday, and Mahjong Club on Friday.

We're also pleased to host The Mount Major Experience, presented by the Society for the Preservation of New Hampshire Forests, on Thursday at 5:00 PM. Learn about the history, ecology, and stewardship of one of New Hampshire's most beloved hiking destinations.

Looking ahead, mark your calendars for the next Alton Book Chat on August 21 at 1:00 PM and the Friends of the Library meeting on August 25 at 6:30 PM.

We're excited to share some wonderful news!

Thanks to the Friends of the Gilman Library, $400 was raised to purchase new children's books. The Pilcrow Foundation generously matched that gift 2:1 with an additional $800, bringing the total to $1,200.

Together, this funding helped us add 103 new children's books to our collection, including several bonus titles donated through the Pilcrow Foundation.

A heartfelt thank you to the Friends of the Gilman Library, the Pilcrow Foundation, and its donors for helping us bring so many wonderful new books to our young readers. Look for the special Pilcrow labels inside these books, then check them out on your next visit!

Thursday, August 6 at 11:30 AM is our End-of-Summer Reading Pizza Party! Summer Reading participants are invited to celebrate a fantastic season of reading with pizza, generously provided by Alton Village Pizza. Thank you to Alton Village Pizza for helping us celebrate all of our amazing readers!

Join us this week for our Elementary Craft on Tuesday, Storytime on Wednesday, Hawaiian Steel Guitar and Movie Matinee on Thursday, and Mahjong Club on Friday. We hope you'll also stop by Alton's Old Home Days this weekend and say hello if you see us around town!

Last Friday Wildlife Encounters Ecology & Wellness Center visited the library with some fascinating animal ambassadors! We were thrilled to see so many friends join us to learn more about the amazing creatures that share our world. (And yes, the cockroaches stayed safely out of close-up range. 🙃) Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the program such a fun and educational afternoon!
