Our Virtual Library Never Closes! Our Brick-and-Mortar Building Hours:

Tuesday & Thursday: 11:00 am - 7:0

Wednesday & Friday: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Closed Sundays, Mondays, and Holidays. The Gilman Library observes five holidays per year with the following closures:

New Year's Day - January 1st
Independence Day - July 4th
Veteran's Day - November 11th
Thanksgiving - 4th Thursday & following Friday, in November
Christmas Day - December 25th

There's something for everyone at Gilman Library this week! Join us for Storytime, read with Rylee the Reading Dog, enjoy a movie matinee, or unwind at one of our meditation sessions. Summer Reading begins June 24, and we can't wait to share a season full of books, activities, and fun with readers of all ages.

History buffs won't want to miss the Alton Historical Society meeting on Tuesday evening, featuring another opportunity to explore and celebrate our community's rich past and present.

Looking ahead, mark your calendars for our Revolutionary Broadway Singalong on June 30! If you've been waiting for your shot to sing along to a certain hit musical about America's founding era, this is your moment. It's sure to be one of the highlights of the summer.

Please note that Gilman Library will be closed on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. We look forward to seeing you at the library!

We're hiring!

The Gilman Library is looking for a part-time Library Assistant to join our team. If you enjoy working with people, books, and community events, we'd love to hear from you.

This position offers up to 15 hours per week and includes a mix of daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Library experience is preferred, but enthusiasm, flexibility, and a commitment to excellent customer service are essential.

The first week of June is bringing plenty of activity to the Gilman Library! Whether you're stopping in for a program, browsing the shelves, or catching up with neighbors, there's something happening throughout the week. On Saturday, the Alton Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale on the library's side lawn during the Community-Wide Yard Sale, and we'll be joining the fun with a library book sale in the Community Room. It's the perfect chance to find a new plant for your garden and a new book for your summer reading pile. We look forward to seeing you at the library!

Memorial Day weekend is here, and the Gilman Library wishes everyone a safe and meaningful holiday as we remember and honor those who served. 🇺🇸

We’re still full of activity this week after the long weekend! Join us for Storytime on Wednesday at 10:30am, Parks & Rec Weight Training on Wednesday at 1:30pm, our Movie Matinee on Thursday at 1pm, and Mahjong Club on Friday at 10am. The Friends of the Library also meet Tuesday evening at 6:30pm.

Looking ahead, the next Alton Book Chat will be held June 9. Grab your copy of Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah at the circulation desk. We hope to see you at the library this week!
