🚸 CROSSWALK SAFETY: BE SAFE. WALK SMART. DRIVE SMART. 🚸

The Alton Police Department, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Mission CISD , Sharyland ISD , and La Joya ISD reminds our community that crosswalk safety is a shared responsibility. Whether you’re behind the wheel or on foot, stay alert, follow traffic signals, and watch out for one another, especially during school hours.

🚗 DRIVERS:
✅ Keep crosswalks CLEAR — do not stop or park over them.
✅ Watch carefully for children and pedestrians at intersections.
✅ YELLOW means SLOW DOWN and prepare to stop — NOT speed up!
✅ Use extra caution in school zones and during school arrival and dismissal times.
✅ Yield to pedestrians and check crosswalks before making a turn.
✅ Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.

🚶 PEDESTRIANS:
✅ Cross at designated intersections and crosswalks whenever available.
✅ WAIT FOR THE WALK SIGNAL before entering the roadway.
✅ Pay attention to pedestrian countdown signals and do not begin crossing when the DON’T WALK signal is displayed.
✅ Never assume a driver sees you — make sure traffic has stopped before crossing.
✅ LOOK LEFT. LOOK RIGHT. LOOK LEFT AGAIN. 👀

⚠️ A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a tragedy.

Drivers and pedestrians both have a role in keeping our children, families, and community safe.

SLOW DOWN. STAY ALERT. BE SAFE. 💙

Earlier this week, members of the Alton Police Department had the opportunity to connect with several of our law enforcement partners from across the Rio Grande Valley.

The gathering provided a great opportunity to network, strengthen partnerships, and exchange ideas on current trends in law enforcement, including report writing and the evolving role of technology in our profession.

We appreciate the opportunity to sit down with fellow law enforcement professionals, share experiences, and continue building relationships with agencies throughout the RGV.

A special thank you to Karda for sponsoring the meal and bringing everyone together.

Strong partnerships make stronger communities. 👮‍♂️🤝🚔

This past week, Chief Perez, Assistant Chief Martinez, and Lieutenant Ortiz attended the FBI National Academy Associates of Texas (FBINAA) Command College, completing 32 hours of classroom instruction focused on leadership, professional development, and the challenges facing today’s law enforcement executives.

The Command College brings law enforcement leaders together to strengthen leadership skills, exchange ideas, and develop strategies that can be brought back to their agencies and communities.

Just as valuable was the opportunity to network with fellow law enforcement leaders, strengthen existing relationships, and build new partnerships across Texas.

Building Partnerships to Better Serve Our Community 🤝

Yesterday, our Crime Victims Liaison, Mrs. Cespedes, represented the Alton Police Department at the Buckner FAYS Community Stakeholders Luncheon, bringing together community partners with a shared commitment to supporting local families.

The luncheon provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration, build partnerships, and learn more about the resources available through Buckner FAYS, including crisis intervention, counseling, life skills, and parent education.

Strong communities are built through strong partnerships. By working alongside organizations like Buckner FAYS, we can better connect victims and families with the services and support they may need during difficult times.

We thank Buckner FAYS for bringing community stakeholders together and for their continued commitment to strengthening families.
