We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dawn Morden. The Brian Morden Foundation was started under CPCF in 2003. Thank you Dawn for your passion, you will be greatly missed!!!!!

We are saddened to share the news that our leader, Dawn Morden, passed away Friday evening, June 3. She had been diagnosed with lymphoma in August. She was passionate about this Foundation and the legacy of her son, Brian. She was a loving mother, daughter, and sister. Family was so important to her. Dawn was also a gifted teacher; talented musician; and caring, compassionate friend. She loved to travel and explore, and was always ready for the next adventure. She has impacted the lives of so many in this community and beyond, and will be sorely missed.

Congratulations to Murals Talk on a wildly successful trip to Costa Rica! The CPCF is proud to administer the Murals Talk Foundation.

Project "Peace Puzzle" truly exemplifies the ideals of peace and unity, by teaching the next generation what can happen when you work together for a common goal yet respecting the individual differences around you. Each person sees things through different eyes yet the end result can be a beautiful piece of art.

This project has touched all of our students at Penn-Mont Academy as a part of our International Day of Peace activities. Each student participated and contributed a painted puzzle piece- infant thru 6th grade. These pieces were then united with a common goal by the hands of many of our students. These puzzles were on display outside of our school today and will be back outside Friday. Unfortunately, due to forecasted rain the puzzles will be displayed inside the building for student and staff viewing Wednesday and Thursday. If you have not already, we encourage you to find your students "Part of the Peace Puzzle." Each puzzle has a listing of students by first name, level (Infant, Toddler, Children's House, Elementary, Upper Elementary) and puzzle piece location. In the words of Maria Montessori: "Peace is what every human being is craving for, and it can be brought about by humanity through the child."

Support for this project was provided by a grant from Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation

HAVE YOU COMPLETED OUR DOWNTOWN STORY WALK YET?

The Altoona Area Public Library, in cooperation with the Altoona Area Business Community, is offering a free Story Walk throughout Downtown Altoona.

A Story Walk is a fun, educational family activity that places a children's story along a route in our community.

Through August 27, children and their families can walk along Downtown Altoona to find 15 story pages in business windows. The Story Walk begins at the Altoona Transportation Center, 1231 11th Avenue, Altoona, where you can pick up a map.

The Story Walk book, "Cat's Colors" by Airlie Anderson, is about a cat that explores her natural environment and collects colors that reflect her feelings as she wanders.

The order for the Story Walk follows this path:
1. Altoona Transportation Center/Library (pick up map Mon-Fri 8:30am - 5pm)
2. Cardiology Associates of Altoona
3. Kerr Kreations Floral, Gift Shoppe & Boutique
4. Trade Secrets Skincare
5. Mountain View Eye
6. LaVintage Decor
7. Shear Power Hair Salon
8. Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation
9. The Clay Cup
10. Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Altoona
11. Comics Vault
12. Blair County Arts Foundation/The Mishler Theatre
13. PA State Rep. Lou Schmitt's Office
14. Altoona Symphony Orchestra
15. TLC Child Care
Thank you to the participating businesses, the Altoona Area Business Community and to Curious City DPW for providing the Story Walk.
This storytime video features one of our super fun backpack kits made for exploring local trails, parks, or even your backyard! Backpack kits are made possible with support from the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation. Check one out today!
