Looking for a chance to escape into a good book for an hour? Join us tonight for Rail Readers Silent Book Club at The Yard - Altoona, Wisconsin, 6pm - 7pm. Just bring a book and a blanket or lawn chair and join us in the green space. In the event of rain or bad weather, come on over to the the library! The coffee pot will be plugged in and ready!

This coming Wednesday is the 2026 Back to School Ice Cream Social hosted by Altoona Police Department, Altoona, WI Fire Department & Altoona Parks and Recreation!! Hope to see you on Wednesday, August 26 from 6-8pm in River Prairie Park.
Bonus: It is also the last night of the 2026 Rock'n on the River Summer Concert Series season! The Thundermen will be taking the OakLeaf Surgical Amphitheater stage starting at 6:30pm.

Mr. Joe Phillips and Mr. Frans Carlstrom returned last week to lead part 2 of their Introduction to Electricity summer workshop with the teens.  Nine teens returned to learn more about electricity through experiments using batteries, LED bulbs and electric leads.  The workshop culminated with each student creating a mini motor using a battery, 3 magnets and copper wire.  Future electrical engineers in the making!

Join us for a book reading and signing with guest author, Suzanne Hancock on Monday, August 17th at 6:30 PM.

Suzanne Hancock is a former Californian who has lived most of her life in Alaska. She has had many professions, including librarian, legal secretary, reporter, correctional officer, and legislative aide.

For many years, she and her family lived on Kodiak Island and had a cabin on Raspberry Island. Presently, a widow with two grown children and three grandchildren, she lives in Anchorage, Alaska.

Leah Weiss is an acclaimed southern author who has published three books in her 70s: If The Creek Don’t Rise, All The Little Hopes, and The Creek, The Crone and The Crow. Her books have been Library Reads, Indie Next and a SIBA Okra Pick. They were honored as finalists for the Library of Virginia’s Literary Awards and nominated for the Southern Book Prize. Her third novel is a return to Appalachia and Baines Creek and is told by beloved characters from the first two books. Her books have sold more than 250,000 copies.
