This morning Deputy Chief Routson decided to don his Chicago Bears sweater vest in hopes of forecasting a Bears playoff win this weekend.

Chief Ogbourne thinks he was trying to channel the great Chicago Bears Head Coach Mike Ditka to help him.......I guess we will see this Sunday if the sweater vest helped or not.

In any case, the 1985 sweater vest does make a fashion statement around the fire station.

Daaa Bears!

We would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year! Please help ring in the new year by following a few tidbits of advice:

1. Plan ahead for a responsible night out.

2. Drink responsibly and NEVER drink and drive.

3. Never leave your drink unattended when out in public.

4. If celebrating the New Year with Champagne, remember removing the cork from the bottle can be dangerous if not done correctly. The cork can pop with force, so always chill your bottle correctly and remove the cork at a slight angle and aim your bottle away from people, pets, and breakable items.

5. The discharge of consumer fireworks (Class I and II) is permitted only on private property between the hours of 9 AM on December 31, 2025, and 12:30 AM on January 1, 2026.

Stay Safe Everyone! Happy New Year!

Your Altoona Fire Department works hard every day to train for emergencies we hope never happen. Today, we are performing ice rescue training at Spring Creek Park.

With warming temperatures, ice thickness can be unpredictable and dangerous. We ask that you please remember to be safe when on or around ice-covered bodies of water and follow these simple safety tips:

1. If you do not need to be on the ice.......don't be.
2. Actively supervise children playing on or near ice.
3. Stay off river or stream ice! Moving water changes ice thickness.
4. Never go onto ice alone. Always have a friend with you that can assist you or call for help.
5. Do not go onto ice at night. Open holes and large cracks will be difficult to see.
6. Wear a life jacket over your winter wear IF you must travel onto the ice.
7. Take safety equipment with you, such as ice picks, rope, and a whistle.
8. Avoid alcohol when venturing onto the ice.

Please join us in congratulating Altoona Fire Department's newest paramedic, Zach Tracy!

The journey to becoming a paramedic is long, challenging, and rewarding. Fire-Medic Tracy completed several months of didactic and psychomotor training. In addition, he completed over 200 hours of experiential rotations in local hospitals and ambulance-based services. He successfully passed the National Registry of EMT Paramedic Exam.

Thank you, Zach, for your hard work, dedication and perseverance in advancing your medical education and in helping provide exceptional and advanced level care to the Altoona community!

Thank you Iowa Barn Door and Mantel!!!
