Tonight, we were the humble recipient of the Iowa Police Chief Association Leadership in Policing Award.

This wasn’t built overnight... or even over the last few years.

In Altoona, community policing was built on a strong foundation established decades ago through loyalty, consistent standards, and good old‑fashioned policing. Each generation of officers has continued to build on those same principles.

One thing that hasn’t changed since 1930, when Altoona had a single night constable, is this: be known. That’s exactly what we continue to do. Our community knows us, and we know them.

Today, community policing looks a little different, social media outreach, lemonade stands, procedural justice, and a great deal of education. We are problem solvers, but we’re able to do that work effectively through collaboration, building relationships, and sharing ideas together. It all rests on the traditional foundation: we are the police, and we are here to help, and now, we are more engaged with our community than ever.

We stand with you on your heaviest days and in the moments you invite us to celebrate.

We are fortunate to serve the community of Altoona. Thank you for allowing us to be your police... past, present, and tomorrow.

National Police Week.
Respect. Honor. Remember.

"In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others."

"National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community."

Happy Mother’s Day! 🌺

“I think every working Mom probably feels the same thing: You go through chunks of time where you’re just thinking, “This is impossible, oh, this is impossible.” And then you just keep going and going, and you sort of do the impossible.” Tina Fey

Bakeris Roofing continues to support our communities in ways that go far beyond a single event. They give back not just yearly, but daily.
-
Once again this year, they invite law enforcement and fire departments out for an evening meant simply to show appreciation. This kind gesture is never expected or required… Bakeris does it because they truly care about giving back.
-
It was a night filled with grilled food, great sides, music, and giveaways, but especially… we say it all the time, because it’s that important to us… meaningful conversations. That’s how we build relationships.
-
We saw familiar faces, new faces, and others we don’t often get to connect with outside of work. The Bakeris Family reminds us how strong our community really is.
-
Thank you, Bakeris Roofing, for your hospitality and your generous heart.
-
Your donation will go toward new Altoona Police K9 training equipment that is much needed!
