PA State Rep. Scott Barger and I were glad to have the opportunity to tour the Blair County Courthouse clocktower and learn more about the restoration efforts that will preserve this historic landmark for future generations.

The clocktower has been a symbol of our community for more than 150 years, and it was fascinating to tour the clock tower. Thank you to the efforts of the POST #516 FORT Fetter American Legion Hollidaysburg Pa for restoring the clocktower to its former glory. I’m looking forward to hearing the bell ring once again on July 4 and celebrating this important milestone in the courthouse’s history.

Right now, if the YMCA or another childcare provider hosts an after-school program at a school site, students are not allowed to use the playground during those hours. Young students are losing time and daylight to go outside and play with each other… Why?

Government overreach in Pennsylvania’s childcare industry has gone entirely too far. For several weeks, the PA House Republican Policy Committee heard from childcare providers across the Commonwealth who all said the same thing - As rewarding as it is to offer this vital service to our Pennsylvania families, new and existing barriers in the industry are making it difficult to do that.

I’m proud to join my colleagues in support of a 14-bill package that would address the challenges our families and providers are facing. Covering topics from modernizing staffing qualifications to providing start-up grants to new providers, we’re working to support those who take care of our children.

I recently joined fellow freshmen House Republicans for a behind-the-scenes tour of the PA Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) headquarters to learn more about the agency’s vital role in keeping Pennsylvanians safe.

We had the opportunity to visit the Situation Room and the Commonwealth Watch and Warning Center, which operates 24/7 to monitor emergencies and coordinate response efforts across the state. It was impressive to see firsthand the technology, planning, and dedicated professionals who work around the clock to prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Thank you to PEMA for providing valuable insight into the important work being done every day to protect our communities before, during, and after emergencies.

This week, PA State Rep. Scott Barger and I got to welcome Nolan Park, an Altoona native, to the Capitol. Nolan is a rising junior at Penn State Altoona majoring in political science. He stopped by to shadow Rep. Barger for the day, and I had the chance to speak with him briefly about recent legislation, including our gas tax holiday, and the ways our municipalities are funded. Nolan also got to check out the House floor and got recognized during session

I’m happy to join Senator Judy Ward in announcing that the Blair County Historical Society has been awarded a grant of more than $99,000 to restore, stabilize and preserve the Baker Mansion History Museum’s iconic columns and second-floor porch. This project will allow the public to safely appreciate and engage with the history of this home and its family for many years to come.

The funding was awarded through the Keystone Historic Preservation Grant Program, which is funded through the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund.

It was an honor to join UPMC Mercy School of Nursing at UPMC Altoona for today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony along with Senator Judy Ward and PA State Rep. Scott Barger. This new program is an important investment in the future of healthcare in our region, and I look forward to seeing the first class begin this fall. Expanding nursing education opportunities here at home is a meaningful step toward strengthening our healthcare workforce and addressing the unique healthcare challenges facing rural communities. Congratulations to everyone who made this vision a reality!
