The Department of Health wants to rewrite the existing health code and reinstate some of the same overreaching policies we saw in the COVID lockdown-era. Strict government intervention didn't work out then, so why does the governor's administration think it will work out now?

Today’s policy hearing brought me to Silver Spring Township, where I had the opportunity to meet Ray Palmer, the township manager.

It was especially great to discover that Ray has deep roots in Blair County. He’s an Altoona native and a proud graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle Academy!

I was honored to host a Pennsylvania House Republican Policy Committee hearing in Altoona focused on an issue affecting every Pennsylvanian: the rising cost of energy.

Our hearing, “Keeping Pennsylvania Moving: Addressing the Rising Cost of Energy,” brought together local business leaders and energy experts to discuss how higher electricity and fuel costs are impacting Pennsylvania businesses, workers, and families.

We heard firsthand from Bill Ward Jr. of Ward Transport & Logistics Corp. Rich Weyant of Shirley's Cookie Company, Inc. and Stephanie Catarino Wissman of American Petroleum Institute Pennsylvania about the real-world consequences of rising energy costs—from higher operating and transportation expenses to the challenges of maintaining good-paying jobs and investing in growth.

Pennsylvania is blessed with abundant energy resources, yet our families and businesses continue to face increasing costs. We need to remove unnecessary barriers to energy production, modernize permitting, strengthen our grid, and make sure Pennsylvania’s energy resources work for Pennsylvania families and businesses first.

Thank you to our testifiers, the members of the Policy Committee, and everyone who joined us for an important and productive discussion. I look forward to turning these conversations into meaningful legislative action.

Pennsylvania introduced some of the strictest regulations in the COVID lockdown-era and subsequent months. Years later, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, under the governor’s leadership, is trying to reinstate similar unfair and over-regulatory policies.

The proposed changes, which were detailed by The Daily Wire in a recent article, would give Department of Health (DOH) officials the ability to reinstate community mask mandates, look at an individual’s private medical records, enter schools and private residences without a warrant and more. House Republican Leader Jesse Topper also noted the DOH would have the authority to interview students in private without a guardian’s permission.

I’m joining House Republican Leader Topper in asking the governor’s administration to withdraw the proposed restrictions and consider the impacts these changes would have on Pennsylvanians. This is an unfair demonstration of overregulation, and I do hope there is an opportunity for legislators to offer intervention on behalf of our constituents.

Energy affordability is one of the highest priorities for House Republicans right now, and I’m proud to bring the conversation and my colleagues to our district today for a policy hearing titled “Keeping Pennsylvania Moving: Addressing the Rising Cost of Energy.”

We’ll be examining the factors driving up the cost of energy and explore practical policy solutions to unleash Pennsylvania’s energy to drive down businesses’ utility costs. We’ve got a great panel lined up to testify about the issues businesses are facing related to their energy costs and how the state can address them.

Thank you to Michelle Peterson and the team at Improved Dwellings for Altoona, Inc. (IDA) for welcoming me to your annual meeting!

I was honored to install IDA’s 2026–2028 officers and celebrate several staff members who were recognized for their years of dedicated service.

IDA has been serving the region for decades, providing quality, affordable housing and supportive services that help individuals and families build stable, independent lives. Organizations like IDA play an important role in strengthening our community, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the people who make that mission possible.

Congratulations to the new officers and all of this year’s service award recipients!

Samantha and I are wishing a very happy first day of school to all students in Altoona Area School District and Hollidaysburg Area School District!

As you go about your day and meet new friends and teachers, Samantha says always remember to "be brave, kind and smart."

We had a few school districts start last week, including Blair County Christian School, Bishop Guilfoyle Academy and Great Commission Schools. I hope all students are having a wonderful start to the new school year! ✏️📓
