🚩Heads up, Modoc National Forest visitors! A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Monday, May 25th. Predicted fire danger for the U.S. Forest Service-Modoc National Forest is very high to extreme. Please exercise caution while recreating on the Forest.

🚩The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a Red Flag Warning for eastern Lake County and southeastern Modoc County, effective from 1 PM to 11 PM PDT on Monday May 25th. This warning is due to the expected critical southwest to west winds and low relative humidity, which may lead to rapid spread of fires. 🌬Winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected. Isolated gusts up to 45 mph are possible

Memorial Day will have near normal temperatures, but southwest to west winds will increase. Drier conditions will continue through most of Monday, and with the stronger winds, precautions should be taken with open flames. The next cold front will arrive Monday afternoon at the coast, and will bring rain mostly to areas west of the Cascades Monday into Tuesday.

The Modoc National Forest will be closed on Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day 🇺🇸. Normal hours resume on Tuesday, May 26....

The Modoc National Forest will be closed on Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day 🇺🇸. Normal hours resume on Tuesday, May 26.
🏕Campgrounds are open in the Warner Mountains and Devils Garden Ranger Districts, but water systems are not potable and visitors are advised to boil water or bring water with them.

The Medicine Lake recreation area is closed due to timber operations due to Medicne Lake Caldera treatment project for Beetle killed timber until June 19th.
Big Valley Ranger District campgrounds are open, except Upper Rush Creek. The same boil water advisory from above is in effect except for Willow Creek Campground.

Obsidian collection will open on July 1 and continue through Sept 1

No fire restrictions are in place, but fireworks are prohibited on U.S. Forest Service-Modoc National Forest lands. Visitors are reminded to follow campfire safety guidelines and Leave No Trace principles. For more information, visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/r05/modoc/recreation

Members of the U.S. Forest Service Modoc National Forest , the forest LEO and forest fire personnel had the opportunity to engage in the Rhonda Haslip Invitational at Modoc High School's football field today, participating in numerous games and races. The event drew support from partner agencies, including CHP Alturas and CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit. Smokey Bear was in attendance, interacting with participants to share crucial fire prevention messages, emphasizing the dangers of playing with matches and the importance of reporting fires by telling someone or calling 911.
