International Firefighters’ Day was born from both tragedy and unity.

On December 2, 1998, during a wildfire in Linton, Australia, five firefighters tragically lost their lives.

In the days that followed, a call went out across the world—
to create a day where firefighters everywhere could be honoured, remembered, and recognised.

May 4 was chosen as a global day of respect.
A day that now unites communities across nations and generations.

From loss came legacy.
From legacy came a global movement.

Late last night, Friendship firefighters were called to assist Headrick Volunteer Fire Department with a hay bale fire on the side of Highway 62. Upon arrival, the hay was fully engulfed. Firefighters utilized all available resources, including ODOT, to stop the fire in an attempt to reopen Highway 62 as soon as possible. Thank you to Headrick for trusting Friendship Firefighters with battling this fire and to Jackson County Sheriff's Office for assisting OHP with closing the highway to ensure firefighter safety.
