🎣 Big Catch at the Reservoir! 🎣

13-year-old Dylan Smith landed this monster catfish today on the big side of the reservoir! 💪🐟

They didn’t have a scale on hand, but the fish was estimated to weigh somewhere between 20–30 pounds. That’s an impressive catch for any fisher, especially at 13 years old!

Congratulations, Dylan, on an awesome day of fishing and a catch you’ll be talking about for years to come! 👏

We’ve received several questions about the traffic cones that are now appearing along Main Street.

The cones are part of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Main Street/US-283 resurfacing project, which officially began this week. The project includes milling the existing roadway surface and applying new asphalt pavement and pavement markings along approximately five miles of roadway through Altus. The project is currently expected to take approximately three to four weeks to complete from the start date.

As construction gets underway, we ask everyone to please slow down and use extra caution when traveling through work zones. Traffic control devices, lane closures, and temporary traffic pattern changes are in place to help protect both drivers and the crews working just feet away from moving traffic. Even a small reduction in speed can make a significant difference in keeping everyone safe.

It’s also important to remember that this project is just getting started. Construction schedules can change due to weather, equipment availability, and other operational factors. Rain and severe weather can delay work and may affect the overall timeline of the project.

We appreciate your patience as these roadway improvements are completed and will continue sharing updates as information becomes available.

For construction-related questions, please contact ODOT directly at 580-482-3191.

Helping Altus stay informed can start with something as simple as sharing a flyer.

The City of Altus is looking for Community Information Partners who care about our community and want to help official City information reach more people.

There is no cost to participate. We simply ask partners to share City flyers and updates in ways that work for their location or organization, such as posting them on a bulletin board, placing them at a front desk, sharing them with staff, or adding them to a newsletter.

Partners can join our email list to receive flyers to print and hang up, pick up printed flyers at our Utility Office window, or have flyers delivered if available.

We’re looking for:
• Local businesses
• Schools
• Churches
• Nonprofits
• Civic groups
• Community clubs
• Key Spouses
• Lodging places
• Hotels and motels
• Apartment offices
• Senior centers
• Child care centers
• Salons and barbershops
• Restaurants and coffee shops
• Medical offices and clinics
