Thank you to Altus Girl Scout Troop 810 for coming to visit us today and they brought us some of their amazing Girl Scout cookies. We gave them a tour of the station and taught them how to use the fire hose.

Today, on International Firefighters' Day, we want to thank all who bravely answer the call to protect their communities, both career and volunteer.

International Firefighters’ Day was born from both tragedy and unity.

On December 2, 1998, during a wildfire in Linton, Australia, five firefighters tragically lost their lives.

In the days that followed, a call went out across the world—
to create a day where firefighters everywhere could be honoured, remembered, and recognised.

May 4 was chosen as a global day of respect.
A day that now unites communities across nations and generations.

Today, our flags fly at half-staff as we join the nation in honoring those recognized at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. We remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, honoring their courage and legacy forever. 🇺🇸🚒 We are especially proud to honor our own local heroes, including Dee Butchee (Warren VFD), Maddy Clinton (Friendship VFD), and Greg Cross (Altus FD/Friendship VFD), alongside Captain Don Goforth II (Poteau FD), who is being added to the Roll of Honor this year. We will never forget their courage and ultimate sacrifice. 🇺🇸🚒
