✈️ 70 Years of the KC-135 Stratotanker

This Monday, Aug. 31, marks 70 years since the KC-135 Stratotanker took to the skies for the first time.

Born from the Air Force’s need for a jet-powered tanker capable of keeping pace with a new generation of jet bombers, the KC-135 quickly became a cornerstone of American airpower.

Between 1956 and 1965, 732 KC-135s were delivered to the Air Force. Through decades of modernization, the Stratotanker has supported generations of Airmen and countless missions around the world, providing the aerial refueling capability that makes rapid global reach possible.

Today, we are proud to carry that legacy forward.

From Aug. 31 through Sept. 1, Altus AFB is celebrating the KC-135 and honoring the Airmen and civilians — past and present — who have kept the Stratotanker flying.

For 70 years, the KC-135 has fueled the fight, extended the reach of American airpower and answered the nation’s call.
And right here in Mobility’s Hometown, we’re training the Airmen who will carry that legacy forward.

🎉 All personnel, families, and community members with base access are invited to help us celebrate this historic milestone! See the below flyer for the list of events.

** Please note that all simulator spots are now full, thank you to all who signed up! **

Always vigilant, always ready, always defending Altus!

Commander of the 97th Mission Support Group, Col. Christopher Jacobson, recently toured the 97th Security Forces Squadron for a first-hand look at the 24/7 operations keeping Altus AFB secure. From the control center and armory to the Visitor Control Center and CATM range, Col. Jacobson saw firsthand the diverse capabilities of our defenders.

Thank you to the outstanding Airmen of the 97th SFS for your skilled dedication, professionalism, and commitment to keeping Team Altus safe and mission-ready!

🛑 Slowing down saves lives. Are you doing your part?

Traffic safety is important for everyone, especially for pedestrians utilizing crosswalks.

Wherever you’re traveling on base, please keep these three critical rules in mind. First, maintain total situational awareness, especially along student routes. Second, strictly adhere to all posted speed limits around base. Finally, come to a complete stop for pedestrians entering or currently in a crosswalk.

Watch this video to see how you can help protect our base community.

SWIM. BIKE. RUN. 🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Altus AFB put fitness in motion as the 97th Force Support Squadron hosted a sprint triathlon on Aug. 22.

Competitors took on a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run, putting their endurance to the test and building a culture of fitness across the installation.

“Here at Altus we are getting after a culture of fitness so we can ensure that victory begins here,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Aaron Jones, 97th FSS commander. “Building physical and mental stamina across the wing guarantees that when our mobility forces are called upon, we deliver ready, capable warriors to the fight.”
