Alva Fire Department

Alva Fire Department The Alva Fire Department is a combination full time and paid-volunteer fire department in Northwest Oklahoma. A fire brigade was formed around this time.

We have 7 full time firefighters and 20 volunteer positions. The department serves the city of Alva and its surrounding area with fire suppression and rescue operations. The town of Alva formed almost overnight with the land run September 16th 1893. The first fire in Alva occurred on February 20th 1894 after a fire destroyed a two room house. In 1902 the Alva Fire Department was recognized by the

Oklahoma and Indian Territory Fireman’s Association which with statehood in 1907 became the Oklahoma Firefighters Association. See our history page for more information and pictures. The Alva Fire Department responds to all fire and rescue emergencies in an initial response area of 263 square miles and assists outside this area through mutual aid when called on. The department also assists the City of Alva Emergency Medical Service when they request. In 2007 the Alva Fire Department responded to 385 calls The Alva fire department houses 2 engines, a ladder truck, and a rescue unit owned by the city of Alva. In addition the department houses and operates a brush rig and tanker tender that is owned by Woods County.

Today we say good luck on your next adventure in the fire service at Enid Fire Department to Firefighter Sage Lamunyon. We gave him a farewell ice bath at 5pm yesterday and he ended his last tour with a structure fire with his Alva Fire Department brothers. It's that time of year again for the Alva Fire Department Annual Easter Egg Hunt. It will be this Saturday, April 4th, 2026, on the Woods County Court House Lawn. We will blow the storm sirens at 10a.m. to start the hunt. Hope to see you all there!

Update: Sorry for the delay in the storm sirens going off. Woods County E-911 suffered some damage to their dispatch center due to a lighting strike. The storm siren testing was to test all functions of their system to determine if there were any propelms and there were issue identifed that delayed the activation of the sirens at 12:10pm. Woods County E-911 has since corrected the issue and all storm sirens work as they should at 4:10pm. Thanks for everyone’s  patience.

At 12:44a.m. The Alva Fire Department responded to a fire located at CR420 and Grady Road. Once units arrived on scene it was determined the fire was in storage tanks on the location of the Energy Transfer Avard Compressor Station. The plant was ESD by firefighters and the fire was allowed to burn until Energy Transfer staff arrived. Coordination with Energy Transfer Staff and the Alva Fire Department foam suppression operations were conducted and firefighters extinguished the fire at 1:38a.m.

Here is the aerial view of the Scribner Salvage Fire on Thursday, February 19th, 2026, the day after the fire. Thanks to Woods County Emergency Manager Evan Yauk for taking this video for us.

I want to thank all the Woods County Fire Departments (Capron Fire Department, Dacoma Fire Department, Freedom Fire Department, Greenleaf Fire Department, Waynoka Fire Department) for responding and helping us with this fire. Also, I would like to thank the Alva EMS, Alva Police Department, Woods County Sheriff's Office, City of Alva Street Department and City of Alva Water Department, City of Alva Management team and Woods County District 1 for all their help during this fire.

I also want to thank the Great Citizens of Alva, Woods County, all the local businesses and civic groups for their outpouring of generosity to the Alva Fire Department with all the donations that have been received during the wildfires last week. Words can't express how much we greatly appreciate it.
