Congratulations to Firefighter Trevor Mason on completing his TCFP Driver/Operator – Aerial certification!

Alvarado Fire Department operates a 110-foot Spartan aerial, and continued personnel development ensures our firefighters have the knowledge and skills necessary to operate this specialized apparatus safely, efficiently, and effectively.

Trevor’s accomplishment is another step toward building a stronger, more capable AFD and providing the best possible service to the Citizens of Alvarado.

Investing in Our People = Better Service

The Alvarado Fire Department believes in sponsoring and supporting our personnel who choose to go above and beyond in their professional development. Investing in our people builds more knowledgeable, capable, and confident responders and ultimately provides better service to the Citizens of Alvarado.

Congratulations to Driver/Engineer Austen Nix, who recently achieved his goal of passing the National Registry Paramedic examination! The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) establishes national competency standards for EMS professionals.

Austen’s accomplishment represents countless hours of education, training, and personal commitment. His success makes him a better responder and makes AFD stronger as a whole.

Alvarado Fire Department is sending a two member crew to West Texas as part of a TIFMAS deployment.

Captain Chad Jones and
Firefighter Isaiah Wilburn are deployed to San Angelo for up to 14 days, assisting with ongoing wildfire operations and supporting communities across West Texas.

We thank you for your commitment to not only serving the Alvarado community, but more so your willingness to help our neighbors across the State during this difficult time.

Investing in Our People, Investing in Our Community

At the Alvarado Fire Department, we believe personnel development is more than earning certifications, it is an investment in our people, our citizens, and the City of Alvarado as a whole.

Congratulations to Kade Klaus on successfully completing his Instructor I certification through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP). Instructor I is an important building block in Kade’s continued professional development and opens the door to future opportunities to teach, mentor, and develop others.

When we provide our personnel opportunities to learn and grow, we strengthen the individual, the organization, and ultimately the level of service we provide to our community.

Developing our people is simply the right thing to do for the employee, for our citizens, and for our City.

Good Afternoon everyone.

The wildfires going on to the West are now affecting local air quality. Most of us might only suffer mild irritation due to the smoke in the air; however, there are some that may be at-risk of respiratory issues due to the wildfire smoke. If you know or are responsible for one of the following in the at-risk demographics, please check on them.

Young children - Children whose lungs are still developing are considered more vulnerable, regardless of whether they have a pre-existing condition.

Pregnant women - Wildfire smoke inhalation puts pregnant women and their unborn children at a higher risk than the general population.

Older adults - This population is at-risk due to an increased rate of pre-existing heart and lung disease.

Anyone with a respiratory disease - Individuals with emphysema, chronic bronchitis, COPD, asthma, or another respiratory disease are at-risk.

Individuals with heart disease - Circulatory diseases include high blood pressure, vascular diseases, heart failure, and cerebrovascular conditions. These conditions make sufferers susceptible to heart attacks, transient chest pain, heart failure, stroke, and sudden death from cardiac arrhythmia.

Today serves as a great reminder that the Alvarado Fire Department is committed to much more than responding to emergency calls. While emergency response is the most visible part of what we do, it is only one component of the emergency preparedness cycle.

Every day, our personnel are actively engaged in mitigation, prevention, protection, response, and recovery to help keep our community safe. From training, maintaining apparatus and equipment, conducting fire inspections, delivering public education programs, developing emergency plans, and supporting neighboring agencies through mutual aid, our firefighters are constantly preparing for the next emergency, even when the sirens aren't sounding.

That commitment to preparedness was on full display today as Firefighter Ethan Baker successfully completed his probationary task book. Completing a probationary task book is a significant milestone that reflects dedication, perseverance, and the successful demonstration of the knowledge and skills necessary to serve the citizens of Alvarado.

Ethan completed his task book in 11 months, but this accomplishment was not his alone. It represents the investment made by his entire C Shift family, whose members spent countless hours mentoring, teaching, evaluating, and encouraging him throughout the probationary process. His success is a reflection of the teamwork, professionalism, and culture that define the Alvarado Fire Department.

Emergency preparedness is a continuous process, and our commitment to the citizens of Alvarado extends far beyond the emergency scene. Every training evolution, every inspection, every maintenance check, every public education event, and every firefighter developed makes our department stronger and our community safer.

Congratulations to Firefighter Ethan Baker and the entire C Shift team on this outstanding accomplishment.
