Three Texas first responders were struck and killed by vehicles while on duty in a week's time. PLEASE slow down and move over its the law and could save someone's life. If you see an emergency vehicle with its lights on move out of the lane closest to them and slow down until you pass. It may cost you a few seconds but could save someone a lifetime of misery!

On this day... 18 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.

Tonight the AFD had the honor to host the Texas Brotherhood, as they stopped in Alvarado for the night. We were able to serve dinner and will serve these men and women breakfast in the morning.
Texas Brotherhood is an organization composed of current/retired First Responders(Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers). These men/women hold benefits through out the year to support families that have experienced a line of duty death.
It is our honor to support this mission as these cyclist ride 750 miles across Texas to honor these familes. We are so grateful for our community, businesses and organizations that help make this a success. Thanks a million to Brookshires, Masseys BBQ, Motorhome Specialist, Johnson County Old Settlers Association and Alvarado ISD. Without their support, this would not have been possible. Just spent $4.00 washing my truck after an Alvarado fireman going South on access road by the Country Bakery didn't slow down to go thru a huge amount of mud that had washed across the road. But, he got the worst of it because he ran off in the bar ditch and got stuck like chuck, lol. I did go back and offer my assistance...lol. Bet he'll slow down crossing a high water/mud mess like that next time.
Thank you for agreeing to bring your firetruck to our Fall Festival. We appreciate all of our Alvarado firefighters!
Come join us for lunch and learn about how we operate, what we can offer to you as a community, and how to get involved. We look forward to meeting you all!!!!!!!!!!
Come on out guys. This seminar will open your eyes to first responder suicides. All are welcome
