MOSQUITO CONTROL WARNING

The City of Alvarado routinely collects and tests mosquitoes. We have received notification that (1) one mosquito has tested POSITIVE for West Nile Virus. There are NO cases of human West Nile reported at this time..

Our contract mosquito spraying crew will begin spraying Saturday and Sunday evenings this weekend between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. in the morning in and around the area where the infected mosquito was collected. The area is generally south of College Street to Maple Street and East from Parkway to Ezell. Residents should inspect and rid their properties of any standing or stagnant water, avoid outside activities in the evenings, use effective repellants and move pet bowls inside when possible during estimated spraying times. The insecticide is low in toxicity to humans and other mammals and is designed to target mosquitoes. The City will continue monitoring.

DOWNTOWN SIDEWALKS INFORMATION

Work currently being done along some of the downtown and area sidewalks in Alvarado is part of a larger TXDot project to improve ADA handicap accessibility. Most all of these sidewalks are in the State right-of-way. Funding of this project is through the State of Texas and NOT from the City of Alvarado. Unfortunately, there is not money allocated in this project to redo all of the downtown sidewalks. Property owners that adjoin sidewalks are responsible for the maintenance/repair/replacement of sidewalk sections as needed along their property. This project should be relatively short in duration and inconvenience. Thanks for your patience.

02/28/2019

We know there is high frustration regarding delays in the boat ramp. The State has moved the grant deadline to June 30. The prefab restroom module is being built to spec now and should be delivered sometime in April. Grade stakes have been set to do the parking areas. Paving cannot occur until temperatures are warm enough to receive hot mix asphalt. There is still work to be done on each side of the ramp to eliminate the current drop off. We had originally hoped to see completion by the end of April but it may be later. We apologize for the delays but not much can be done about it at this point. Unfortunately the project got off to a bad start at inception. When finished, all can celebrate and enjoy the new facility.

We had a little fire extinguisher training today! Thank you to Alvarado FD!!!
