Jaces Coats for kids
At 9 years old, Alvin/Santa Fe Resident, Jace Dungan, is already a man of action. He and his grandfather Mark Higdon were driving through an underpass when Jace noticed a homeless family under the bridge. Asking who they were and why they were there, Higdon explained that not everyone is as fortunate as they. He told Jace that sometimes people just have bad luck an need a little help.
One thing Jace noticed right away was the children weren’t wearing any coats on that cold November day, and that’s when he went into action. With help from his family & friends, Jace began collecting coats. Using social media and through word of mouth, Jace collected 235 coats shattering his goal of 101.
“Jace has always been a really tenderhearted young man” Higdon said. “Jace is always on the Honor roll at school and even received the principals award for empathy. He didn’t even know what that word meant until he looked it up. This isn’t the first act of philanthropy for Jace and his grandad who he calls “Pop”. He has participated in numerous charities and fundraisers and at Christmas Jace wrote 77 Christmas cards to wounded soldiers that couldn’t be home for Christmas.
This year Jace’s goal is to collect 500 coats for kids and families and distribute them throughout the area to those who are in need of a warm coat. There are over 100,000 homeless students in Texas. Lets help Jace make a difference in as many lives as possible. Are you with us! Lets collect some coats, sweaters, hoodies and warm up those who in need.
