Looking back at all the adventures & memories over the years of owning the Alvin Christmas House. So many great ones.
During pandemic I was so bored. I decided each night I would go work on the Carriage House in back yard. It had always been used a rental/storage (before we moved in) & we had not even touched it since purchasing home.
So I went to work & my plan was just one room. One room turned into two, and anotherโฆ.until it was finished. On a $500 spending cap. Using current antiques, furniture & left over supplies from big house.
I went through 7 audio books up there during middle night hours. It was so peaceful, it reminded me of a little nest tucked up in trees. Thatโs where its name, โThe Nestโ came from.
We started by offering it to any family/friends in need of temp recovery or shelter. And just a few months later it became a full blown AirBnB! It remained booked solid at least 2 weeks every month, for 1-3 day stays. Folks coming to receive medical care in MedCenter (so close); those visiting relatives, holidays; and at Nest they could bring their pets. Those stopping overnights for Cruising from Galveston & not having to paying $$$$ island hotel fees. We had folks here for Brazoria County fairs; those evacuating with their pets from hurricanes in need of shelter. Once we even hosted for police in town for conference. You should have seen neighbors faces when officer sat on porch cleaning all their guns! ๐
Every single person we hosted (must have been over 70+individuals) left us the most kind & best feedback. They all loved the Nest. It was not fancy; but it was welcoming.
We kept each guests feedback in a notebook & later they (guests) started their own tradition of using Post-It notes around the apt. that we left up until day we moved. Guests loved the quiet; original history; sound of train; privacy; parking in driveway, easy access & ability to walk to town for dinner; museum; live music & more. We met so many amazing people and had the best experience at being hosts for our little Nest. Who would have ever guessed a little 1900 Carriage House on a $500 flip could provide & make so many awesome memories.
We will miss her. It was so much fun.
Praying someone will soon buy The Christmas House and whatever they decide to do with it, it will mean as much to them as it has to us.
Itโs a beautiful home, property; incredible history and has so many options.
