UPDATE 9/2/26 @ 10:34 a.m. - Both Roadways have been cleared.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT

A train hit a semi on E. 1/2 Street and is currently stalled along Gordon and Tovrea. We’re not sure yet how long it will take to get everything cleared. No injuries have been reported.

Please use caution if you’re traveling in the area and take an alternate route if you can.

WEATHER ALERT – HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE THIS WEEK

The National Weather Service is forecasting that portions of SE TX are in a slight risk (level 2 of 4) of Excessive Rainfall for Tuesday and Wednesday. Rainfall totals of 3-5" are expected, with locally higher amounts of 6-9" possible.

Residents are encouraged to remain weather aware over the next few days and use extra caution when traveling. Alvin’s Emergency Management team will continue monitoring conditions and will provide updates as necessary.

REMEMBER:
🚗Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown.
⚠️Use caution when traveling and allow extra time to reach your destination.
🌧Monitor local forecasts and weather alerts.

UPDATE (9/1): Water service has been restored to the area.

💧 Temporary Water Service Shutdown Notice

The City of Alvin has scheduled a temporary water service shutdown for Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The contractor working on the Lift Station 23 Expansion Project will need to have the water turned off to install an offset to go around an obstacle.

Water service will be affected in the following areas:
• Munson Road from Gordon Street to the end of the street

Residents may notice temporary water discoloration after service is restored. City crews will flush the waterlines to help resolve the issue.

Alvin is getting a little more colorful! 🎨

The City of Alvin, in partnership with Keep Alvin Beautiful , has officially begun decorating select traffic control boxes around the community! The first installation was completed today near Fairview Junior High, at the corner of Bennett Road and Alvin-Manvel Road.

And we’re just getting started! More traffic control boxes are currently in the works, bringing even more art and personality to some of Alvin’s most highly traveled corridors.

All locations were selected based on visibility, traffic exposure and the opportunity to enhance our community. This project is funded through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) funds designated for the Public Art Program.

We can’t wait to see these everyday pieces of infrastructure transformed into something a little more colorful, creative and uniquely Alvin! Huge thank you to Keep Alvin Beautiful for our continued partnership. ❤️

WATER METER & USAGE UPDATE

We know there have been some questions and concerns raised recently about water usage and meters. We want our residents to know that the City of Alvin is listening, we are taking those concerns seriously, and we are taking additional steps to verify that our water meters are accurately measuring usage.

The City has engaged an independent third-party consultant to test water meters throughout Alvin. Meters will be randomly selected and independently tested for accuracy. This will provide an objective assessment of meter performance and help identify any potential issues.

We will share the results of the testing with our community once it is complete.

Rusty or Brown Water
Alvin's water comes from groundwater sources that naturally contain iron and manganese. These minerals can sometimes cause water to appear rusty or brown and may stain laundry or plumbing fixtures.

If you experience rusty or brown water, please contact the Public Works Department at 281-388-4325. A City Utility Technician can respond to investigate the issue and, when appropriate, flush the water distribution mains in the affected area.

Unexpected Water Usage
An unexplained increase in water usage can sometimes be the first indication of a leak or another issue. Common causes can include:

• Leaking or running toilets
• Dripping faucets
• Irrigation or sprinkler system leaks
• Water softeners
• Automatic swimming pool fills
• A leak in the water line between the meter and the home or business
• Increased outdoor watering or other changes in normal water use

If you experience a significant or unexplained increase in your water usage, please reach out to our Utility Billing staff. There can be several reasons for an unexpected increase, and our staff has helped many customers identify issues that were contributing to higher usage.

⚠️ PUBLIC NOTICE – West Nile Virus Detected

The Brazoria County Mosquito Control District has confirmed that West Nile Virus was detected in a mosquito trap sample collected within the City of Alvin and tested on August 26,2026.

Collection Location:
• Avenue I and Texas St. in Alvin

Mosquito Control crews will spray these areas twice nightly for the next three nights and will re-trap the locations later next week to monitor mosquito activity.

Residents are encouraged to reduce mosquito breeding by eliminating standing water around their homes and to protect themselves by using insect repellent and limiting outdoor exposure during peak mosquito activity at dawn and dusk.

The City of Alvin will continue to share updates from the Brazoria County Mosquito Control District as information becomes available

PUBLIC NOTICE 🦟

The Brazoria County Mosquito Control District has identified West Nile Virus in one mosquito trap collected and tested on August 26, 2026.

The mosquito trap was located at:

Mosquito Control will treat the affected area twice nightly for the next three nights. The area will be retested next week.

A new restroom and storage facility is coming to Morgan Park! 🌳

The existing restroom and storage building at Morgan Park has served the park for many years, but it has reached the end of its useful life. It’s time to tear it down and build something new!

Plans are complete, the necessary approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is in hand, and the project is ready to move forward.

The project will be funded through the Parks Dedication Fund, which consists of fees paid by developers and set aside specifically for park improvements, along with Certificate of Obligation bond funds designated for parks and recreation projects. Located at 1500 W. South Street, Morgan Park is home to two lighted baseball fields, a playground and sand volleyball court.

Replacing this aging facility is one more way we’re continuing to invest in and improve the parks our community uses and enjoys.☀
