Looking southeast from the NWS Amarillo office around 6:15 PM - we can see a line of strong to severe storms out in the distance about 100-120 miles away from our office. These storms are stretched along a dryline roughly from Tahoka northeast to Paducah. The thunderstorm tops of around 45,000 to 50,000 ft tall makes it a spectacular site to see. Please use caution if traveling in these areas. Locally, we are watching Collingsworth county for a thunderstorm potential through sunset, but chances are not too high at this time.

May 31 - There could be some isolated thunderstorms tomorrow across the northern TX Panhandle and the OK Panhandle, but most places will remain warm and dry. Moisture increases on Tuesday and that trend continues through at least Friday. There will be thunderstorm chances each day this upcoming week. There may be low chances for severe storms each day and heavy rainfall may occur which could lead to flooding concerns.

Temperatures continue to warm today into tomorrow. No showers or storms expected today. However, will see a slight chance to chance for showers and storms tomorrow afternoon into evening. Primarily across the northern combined Panhandles. A low chance for severe storms exist across the Oklahoma Panhandle as well for tomorrow.

The only record at risk is Borger's record high of 100 (1953) this afternoon. Even though temperatures are expected to be warmer tomorrow, records for tomorrow are a bit higher than today's records. For example Amarillo's record today is 100 (1953) but tomorrow's is 107 (2018).

May 30 - After a warm and dry day on Sunday, moisture will return to the Panhandles on Monday but more so on Tuesday into Wednesday. With a low pressure system moving in across the western US, this will allow for daily chances for showers and storms to develop over the Southern Plains. Severe storms will be possible during this time frame as well, but confidence in widespread severe storms is low at this time.

Looking at a break from showers and thunderstorms today through Monday with much warmer temperatures. One caveat is that there is a very low chance (10-15%) for an isolated shower or storm to pop in the eastern combined Panhandles this afternoon. The low chance is due to some uncertainty to the position of a dryline. Cannot rule out a severe storm if storms do pop. Otherwise, afternoon highs are expected to reach well into the 90s with the exception of the far northwestern combined Panhandles over the next three days.
