Good morning! Warm and dry weather will continue through the weekend, with breezy conditions Saturday and Sunday. Monday will be another warm and dry day before a cold front sweeps through Monday night into Tuesday. Scattered thunderstorms are expected with this frontal passage, which will also cool us down into the 70s!

Good afternoon panhandles. Today remains a sunny, warm, and fair weather day. These calm weather days will persist through the rest of the week. However, as we go into the weekend the panhandles winds will begin to blow again. On the horizon it is still looking favorable for wetter weather to return to the panhandles early next work week.

Temperatures will stay fairly steady across the Panhandles over the next 7 days, but expect conditions to get a bit breezy over the weekend with gusts up to 30 mph. Beyond the weekend, our next chance for rain moves in Monday night and continues into Tuesday.

Mostly quiet weather is expected over the next 6 to 7 days, featuring plenty of sunshine, above-average temperatures, and some breezy conditions this weekend. Towards the very end of the 7-day period, we’ll be watching for a potential system that could bring rain back to the Panhandles early next week. Areas on the caprock today are expected to stay in the 70s while off the caprock see temperatures reach the lower 80s. Going into tomorrow, conditions warm up with 80s returning across all of the combined Panhandles for Tuesday afternoon.

The website water.noaa.gov is an excellent resource for water forecasts and hydrology information. During recent heavy rainfall a few days back, the hydrograph for the Canadian River north of Amarillo showed the river reaching moderate flood stage.

For many forecast points along rivers, the site also lists local Flood Impacts at various water stages. Thanks to data collected by survey teams, you can see exactly how rising water will affect specific nearby areas at certain river points. The example shown illustrates these stage-based impacts for the Canadian River forecast point.

Did you see flooding on September 29th or 30th? We would appreciate it if you would share what you experienced! Some reports we are looking for include high water on roadways, water approaching or entering a building or house, ≥ 6" of fast-moving water, and anything else related to flooding. Please state when you observed the flooding. Pictures and videos are especially helpful. Please indicate in your post whether or not we may use your picture or video in the future for training or archival purposes. Thank you!

With little to no rain expected over the next 7 days, we’re looking ahead to the Climate Prediction Center’s 8-to-14 day outlook for October 11–17. While it’s not a slam dunk for rain, there is a glimmer of hope! Much of the Panhandles fall under a "near-normal" precipitation signal. Mathematically, "near-normal" means there is about a 68% chance of seeing either near-normal or above-normal rainfall during this period. While a 32% chance of below-normal precipitation remains, it's a sign that rain chances may begin to return after this expected dry week ahead.
