It has been a devasting, long few days. I want to express our sincere condolences to those in the area of Dowell Rd/ Eagle Tree and the Bishop Estates/Hills area, for several have damage, several have lost everything. I want you all to know that the Potter County Sheriff's Office will continue to be seen in these areas for safety and security. Our patrol officers will be required to be making runs through all of the areas for several weeks. These areas are very active with Excel, First Responders and lots of out of county state and federal fire investigators getting assessments of the damage, so PLEASE be mindful of these folks as they drive around the areas. One thing I ask of those living in the area, if you see someone that you don't feel belongs in that area call our office at 379-2900, get a description, location and let us know we will check on it. We are there for your safety and we want to prevent anyone looting in the area for sure. If you don't live in these areas we are asking you to stay out, we do not need lookers in the area on top of all the first responders and workers that are present! Know that we are here and a phone call away. Most of the command will be released later today several of us have worked many hours some for 24 to 36 hours, HOWEVER we will be there to watch your places! So please if you see anyone that does not belong report them. Again be very careful in the area with all the moving Excel and first responder vehicles.
We do say THANK YOU to ALL of the fire departments that have responded Potter County Fire-Rescue Amarillo Fire Department, (others that responded to help) Amarillo Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety - Northwest Texas Region, Texas Game Wardens, Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management, Potter County - Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Services, that help with feed and water for so many animals. I may have missed some, and I am sorry, but we appreciate all the help, and all that help feed the hungry souls as they continued to work.

REENTRY & EVACUATION UPDATE (2:45PM)

Response agencies are preparing to begin a phased reentry process for certain evacuation areas beginning at 3:00PM, Tuesday, May 19th. Because conditions vary significantly throughout the impacted areas, reentry procedures and access levels will differ by neighborhood.

At this time, neighborhoods are expected to fall into one of the following categories:

Beginning at 3:00pm, residents in the following areas may be allowed limited escorted access to check property conditions, retrieve essential belongings, or assess damage before exiting the area again:

▪️Bishop Estates from 3:00pm to 9:00pm
▪️Bishop Ranches from 3:00pm to 9:00pm

FULL REENTRY WITH CONTROLLED ACCESS (from I-40 frontage and S. Dowell Rd.)
Beginning at 6:00pm, residents in the following areas may be allowed to return to their homes while law enforcement maintains controlled access points to limit non-resident traffic and sightseeing activity:

▪️Two Deer Creek
▪️Eagle Tree
▪️Quail Canyon
▪️Alta Vista Estates
▪️Dripping Springs
▪️Silver Pointe

Residents returning to affected areas should be prepared for:
▪️Law enforcement checkpoints
▪️Designated entry points
▪️Potential utility outages
▪️Hazardous conditions, including debris, and downed lines

Residents are strongly encouraged to follow all directions from emergency personnel while in the affected areas.

Response agencies understand the urgency many residents feel to return home. Every effort is being made to provide access as quickly as possible while ensuring the safety of residents, utility crews, first responders, and recovery personnel still operating in the area.

TUESDAY, MAY 19 - WILDFIRE UPDATE ‼️

Please refer to the following post for the most recent updates: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1GLcUGgbVy/

Emergency personnel continue actively assessing conditions within the evacuation areas this morning. Many residents are understandably anxious to return home, and evacuation orders will be lifted in coordination with responding agencies as soon as conditions are determined to be safe.

Response partners continue conducting damage assessments and evaluating road access, utilities, and overall public safety conditions throughout the affected areas. This includes coordination among fire personnel, law enforcement, utility providers, emergency management, and other responding agencies.

The Church at Quail Creek, located at 1801 Tascosa Rd in Amarillo, is currently accepting evacuees needing shelter assistance.

This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional situation for many families. Every decision is being made with the safety of residents, first responders, and the community in mind. The patience, support, and compassion being shown throughout this response are deeply appreciated, and additional updates will be shared as information becomes available.

As a reminder, the following areas are still under mandatory evacuation: Bishop Estates, Two Deer Creek, Eagle Tree, Quail Canyon, Bishop Ranches, Alta Vista Estates, Dripping Springs, and Silver Pointe. https://warn.pbs.org/

Sorry for the confusion last evening, lots of things going on and miscommunication from multiple disciplines.

Update, the area is still under extreme danger and being patrolled. Anything west of Bishop Hills is still restricted for any entrance, Bishop Hills can come in but will need to show that you live in that area.
