FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: February 10, 2026
Amberg Fire Department Announces Chief Jim Parr’s Retirement and New Leadership Transition
Amberg, WI — On January 5, 2026, Chief Jim Parr retired from his position as Chief of the Amberg Volunteer Fire Department after 15 years of dedicated service to the community.
During his tenure, Chief Parr played a pivotal role in expanding the annual Amberg Fire Department Parade and Picnic, held on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Under his leadership, the event grew into a cherished community tradition—drawing large crowds from across northern Wisconsin and raising essential funds to support departmental operations.
Although stepping down as Chief, Jim Parr will continue to serve the community as an active member and firefighter of the department. The Amberg Fire Department and the Town of Amberg extend heartfelt gratitude for his years of leadership, commitment, and service.
The department also announces that former Assistant Chief Corey Bereza has been promoted to Chief. Chief Bereza brings more than 35 years of fire service experience, having retired in 2022 as a Captain and firefighter/paramedic with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department before returning to his roots in Amberg.

Recently, we had the honor of welcoming the Shaw Family to Wausaukee Rescue.
With their blessing, we’d like to share a story that reminds us of why we do what we do — and why moments like these mean so much to all of us.

Last year, our team responded to a call for a young child who had suffered a serious accident involving weight equipment. Thanks to the quick actions of our first responder arriving within minutes and the skilled care provided by our ambulance crew, life-saving care was given immediately and critical support was on the way.

Today, that amazing child is healthy and thriving, and we are so thankful to see the Shaw Family doing well and to know this story has such a happy ending for their family.
They recently stopped by to visit our crew and made a generous donation to help support Wausaukee Rescue and the work we do every day. Moments like these remind us how strong and blessed our small community truly is.

From all of us at Wausaukee Rescue — thank you, Shaw Family, and thank you to our communities who stand behind us. Your support keeps our mission alive and our community safe. ❤️🚑

Recently, Amberg Fire Department participated in training with Pembine’s Fire Department and Rescue Squad. Skills practiced were vehicle extrication, patient removal, and fire suppression techniques. Training such as this allows for closer partnerships with our neighboring communities to enable more effective, efficient response to one another’s emergencies.
